Krásný Dvůr Castle and its landscape park combine historic interiors with an extensive landscaped estate. The castle acquired its present appearance after extensive renovations between 1720 and 1724. The public tour includes 11 rooms; most of the rooms open to visitors are furnished in a historic style. Check the current tour arrangements before travelling. This will help you plan the castle tour as a clearly defined part of your visit.

Castle and Landscape Park

The park was laid out by Jan Rudolf Czernin between 1783 and 1793 and is one of the first landscape parks in Bohemia. It covers almost 100 hectares. This gives a visit to the park a very different character from a tour of the 11 castle rooms: the castle focuses on historically furnished interiors, while the park showcases large-scale landscape design. Visitors who want to experience both can divide their time between two very different aspects of Krásný Dvůr. The park was created after the renovations that gave the castle its present appearance; the dates therefore mark different phases in the site's history.

Park Highlights

The so-called Goethe Oak is estimated to be 1,000 years old, but today only its trunk remains. The Gloriet, also known as Malý templ or Venušin chrámek, stands on a high elevation above a pond. The Chinese Pavilion is octagonal and was intended to evoke a Chinese pagoda. Poustevníkova ravine can be reached from a large Neo-Gothic stone bridge. The park thus brings together natural features, architectural forms, location, and access as distinct aspects of its design.

Explore the Park Independently

The TourStories digital park guide is available for exploring the castle park independently. It lets visitors explore the park at their own pace. The guide includes audio commentary, a photo gallery, historical views and park maps, drone videos, and music recordings. Audio and visual materials offer different perspectives, while the park maps add spatial orientation. The features included may change, so check the latest app information before travelling.

Plan Your Journey

If travelling by train, check the seasonal timetable. During the tourist season, trains operated by Doupovské dráhy run to Krásný Dvůr on the route from Kadaň to Podbořany and back. The stop is about a 20-minute walk from the castle; check the latest departures before travelling. Parking is available about 30 metres from the castle gate. As parking arrangements may change, check the latest information before you set off. The options differ for the final leg of the journey: allow around 20 minutes to walk from the railway station, while the parking spaces are close to the castle gate.
