The Rosovka stream, local history and cycling routes highlight different aspects of Lkáň. If you are planning a stay, you can get to know the municipality through its location and historical connections, include a named cycling route in your plans, and arrange your journey by bus or train separately.
Rosovka, landscape and location
Lkáň stretches along both banks of the Rosovka stream in the Klapská pahorkatina hills, on the southern edge of the Bohemian Central Highlands. Two water basins are located in the built-up area near the stream. The history of agriculture and fruit growing is also connected to the landscape: historically, both benefited from the location, the microclimate and the fertile soils. The watercourse, the settlement’s location and former land use are therefore specific points of reference if you would like to place Lkáň geographically.
Local history and culture
Lkáň is first mentioned in a document issued by King Wenceslas I in 1237. In the 14th century, the village passed into the possession of the noble Zajíc family, based at nearby Hazmburk Castle; Lkáň was incorporated into the Libochovice estate. These two dates provide different historical reference points: the early mention in a document and, later, the connection to the Zajíc family and the estate. Hazmburk was the seat of the Zajíc family in the 14th century; the connection to the Libochovice estate, by contrast, describes Lkáň’s affiliation at the time and thus a different link to the area.
The niche chapel is the only cultural monument in Lkáň. Traditional events include a witches’ festival, May celebrations and Easter celebrations, a masked carnival, a kite festival, the Three Kings collection and Christmas celebrations. If you would like to plan your visit around an event, check the specific dates and whether it is open to the public locally.
Cycling around Lkáň
Lkáň lies at the intersection of cycling routes 3118 and 3119, a useful reference point for planning your route. The “Lovosice–Házmburk–Lovosice” circular cycling route also passes through the village. It is about 50 kilometres long and rated as moderate. These details provide different types of guidance: routes 3118 and 3119 are identified by their numbers and destination, while the circular route is described by its approximate length and difficulty. Check current route conditions before setting off.
Getting there by train and bus
Lkáň has no railway station. The nearest stations are in Dlažkovice or, farther away, in Libochovice. Bus route 664 has stops in Lkáň and the surrounding area; it runs between Třebívlice and Lovosice, with buses operating on weekdays. Train and bus services therefore offer different options for getting there. Check the current timetable before departure, as transport connections may change.
