Chotiměř brings local history together with a distinctive landscape: the Chotiměřský stream flows through the village, which is surrounded by orchards, farmland and forests. Views of four named peaks and the nearby Oparenské Valley provide further points of reference. When planning your trip, local history, the valley and the railway offer distinct themes to explore.

Landscape around Chotiměř

From Chotiměř, there are views of Kletečná, Kubačka, Lovoš and Milešovka. Together with the orchards, cultivated land and nearby forests, they create a picture of the surrounding area that includes both open cultural landscape and wooded areas. The Chotiměřský stream flows through the village, joins the Milešovský stream and continues with it towards the Elbe.

The nearby Oparenské Valley is about 6 km long and stretches from Velemín to Malé Žernoseky. The Milešovský stream flows through the valley, and wet meadows also shape the landscape. Where erosion has exposed the rock, metamorphic and igneous rocks can be seen. Marked trails and the tourist railway connect the valley with Chotiměř. The valley thus offers a distinct landscape perspective alongside the views of the surrounding peaks from the village.

Chapels and regional history

The local cultural heritage includes the Baroque Chapel of St John of Nepomuk, dating from the late 18th century.

Another chapel stands at Opuce, on the road from Chotiměř to Velemín. After restoration was completed in 2022, it was returned to its original appearance. Its construction is believed to date to the mid-19th century. An older stone cross, erected there in 1759, was used in its construction. This cautious dating distinguishes the presumed construction date from the more precisely dated cross.

Local tradition also includes the story of two feasts, which inspired today’s municipal flag and coat of arms. Nearby, the restored Oparenský Mill, also known as Konrad’s Mill and Deutsch Mill, serves as an environmental education centre. The ruins of Oparno Castle, dating from the 13th century, stand above the Oparenské Valley.

Railway and events

The Oparenský Express currently runs along part of the more than 120-year-old Lovosice–Teplice in Bohemia railway line, as far as Chotiměř. As services and timetables may change, it is best to check the connection before your trip. The railway is therefore both a practical aspect of trip planning and part of the local link to the Oparenské Valley.

The T-Mobile Olympic Run has been held repeatedly in Chotiměř, in 2021 and again in 2026. The courses were designed for children and adults and led through the Oparenské Valley.

The Chotiměř Masopust was held for the seventh time in 2026, with a parade through the village. If you would like to plan your trip around an event, check the date in advance for the year you intend to travel. The chapels and landscape features, by contrast, offer further reasons to choose this destination regardless of these specific event dates.
