There are several clear reasons to choose Brzánky for a trip: rural architecture, a cycling route that passes through the village, and the Sovice u Brzánek area. The farmsteads differ in their architectural styles and locations along the road to Vetlá. The cycling route’s course and suitable bicycle types are specified. This allows you to decide whether architectural heritage, cycling or the designated habitats will be the main reason for your stay.

Rural architecture in Brzánky

Brzánky has four immovable cultural monuments: the rural farmsteads at house numbers 10, 18, 21 and 2. Farmstead No. 10 comprises a dwelling house, a granary with an attached barn, and a shed. The protected granary is a small, two-storey building of folk architecture dating from the early 19th century. Here, several buildings within a farmstead stand alongside a separate granary whose architectural style and date are specified in more detail.

The dwelling house at farmstead No. 18 is a two-storey building from the first half of the 19th century. Its eastern façade opens onto a two-storey arcade. House No. 21 has a different character: it is a Neoclassical building of folk architecture dating from after 1800 and before 1843. Both farmsteads are in the western part of Brzánky, but on opposite sides of the road to Vetlá: No. 18 is to the south and No. 21 to the north. The buildings can therefore be compared in terms of façade design, architectural style and location.

Farmstead No. 22 is also in the western part of Brzánky, on the north side of the road to Vetlá. Its house is a building of folk architecture with an L-shaped floor plan and a converted attic. Unlike the arcade at No. 18, the focus here is on the floor plan and attic. The dates given for the other buildings are specified in different ways: the granary at No. 10 dates from the early 19th century, the dwelling house at No. 18 from the first half of that century, and No. 21 from a period after 1800 and before 1843.

Cycling and getting your bearings

Variant 2A of the Labská stezka, also known as EuroVelo 7, passes through Brzánky on its route from Roudnice nad Labem to Štětí. Mountain bikes or trekking bikes are particularly suitable for the Roudnice nad Labem–Štětí section. The route may change within the stated period up to 2030; surface conditions may also vary. If you plan to ride this section, check the current route and conditions in advance.

A virtual tour is also available on the official website of the municipality of Brzánky. If you would like to get a first impression before your trip, check whether the tour is available there.

Sovice u Brzánek

The Site of European Importance Sovice u Brzánek was designated to protect semi-natural dry grasslands and scrub formations on calcareous substrates. This gives the natural environment a clearly defined focus: specific habitat types and their substrate. It adds a distinct theme to Brzánky’s architectural heritage.
