Lovosice brings together cultural history and outdoor activity. Churches, a Renaissance castle and the Pfannschmidt Villa offer distinct architectural highlights; Lesopark Osmička has routes for runners and inline skaters, as well as other facilities. You can tailor the focus of your stay to your interests.
Churches, the Castle and Historic Architecture
The Mírový Church of the Czechoslovak Hussite Church is designated a cultural monument and is one of Lovosice’s defining urban features. St. Wenceslas Church presents a different architectural style: this rectangular, single-nave building has a tower above the façade. Its furnishings are predominantly Rococo and date from the second half of the 18th century.
The Renaissance castle in Lovosice was built between 1545 and 1574. It is currently used for educational purposes; as this use may change, check whether access is possible before visiting. In front of the castle, on the site of the demolished farmyard, there is now a municipal park with two pavilions. The castle and park thus offer two distinct points of interest: the architectural history of the Renaissance building and the present-day design of the former farmyard.
Construction of the Pfannschmidt Villa began in 1881, and it was completed around 1887. Preserved features include restored stucco ceilings, richly decorated ceiling paintings, wood panelling and one surviving example of an original tiled stove. The historic villa regularly hosts lectures, discussion groups, exhibitions and concerts. The cultural programme may change; if an event is a deciding factor in your trip, check the dates in advance.
The aim of LOVO Gallery is to support the development of contemporary art and the presentation of collections by prominent artists. Together with the historic buildings, it offers another cultural focus, distinct from the city’s religious and architectural history.
Routes and Outdoor Activities
Lesopark Osmička has two routes for runners and inline skaters: one is 500 metres long and the other one kilometre. The two distances let you choose how far you want to go. There is also a children’s playground and an outdoor fitness area, so the park offers other activities in addition to running and skating.
Hiking and cycling also have specific routes. A green-marked hiking trail leads from Lovosice to Lovoš. A cycle path runs from Lesopark Osmička to the ferry at Malé Žernoseky. The Agnes was acquired for the ferry between Lovosice and Píšťany and has more space for prams and bicycles. As boats and services may change, check current connections before planning your trip.
When planning your trip, it makes a difference whether you want to time your visit around a particular cultural programme or plan a route on foot or by bike. Check event dates and ferry connections accordingly. The buildings, the villa’s programme and the outdoor routes offer different points of focus, without requiring you to fit them all into the same itinerary.
