The Kamenice Valley, the Arba wetland and traces of several eras shape Srbská Kamenice. The themes range from river landscapes and nature conservation to church art, architectural history, military history, and music festivals in August and September.

River valley and the Arba wetland

The Arba Nature Reserve is a large meadow in the valley beside the Kamenice River. It protects plants and animals that depend on meadows and spring areas; Arba is also one of the region’s most important wetlands. The reserve is therefore a clearly defined natural focal point.

Srbská Kamenice is also a starting point for visits to České Švýcarsko National Park and the Labské pískovce, České středohoří and Lužické hory Protected Landscape Areas. This lets you broaden your perspective beyond Arba: the areas named here offer additional possible destinations for your itinerary.

Church, relief and traditional houses

The present-day Church of St. Wenceslas was built between 1772 and 1776; its foundation stone was laid on 15 July 1772. The church houses a valuable Rococo altar. Below the church, beside the road, a relief of the Coronation of the Virgin Mary is carved into a rock face. It dates from 1701.

Traditional half-timbered houses with a surrounding gallery also document the original settlement of Srbská Kamenice. The church, relief and houses offer different ways to explore the village’s history: sacred art, an image carved into rock, and a traditional building style.

Dolský mlýn: historic mill and hiking destination

Dolský mlýn was first mentioned in writing in 1515. The mill became a popular destination mainly after 1881, when boat traffic began in the gorge between Srbská Kamenice and Dolský mlýn. This historical development is part of the area’s history and differs from how visitors reach the site today.

Today, Dolský mlýn can be reached from Srbská Kamenice via a green-marked hiking trail. Depending on your fitness, there are several options for the return journey to the village. So include return-route options when planning your hike. Trail conditions can change; check them before setting out.

Fortifications and museum

A line of light fortifications was built in Srbská Kamenice between 1937 and 1938 to defend the republic against Nazi Germany. It comprises numerous reinforced-concrete bunkers, popularly known as “Řopíky.” From the U Ferdinanda bus stop in Srbská Kamenice, the line can be reached via a blue-marked hiking trail.

The Museum of North Bohemian Fortifications in Srbská Kamenice covers the construction of the fortifications and the equipment of the bunkers. Examples of the Czechoslovak army’s weaponry are also on display. The trail to the fortification line and the information in the museum offer two different ways to explore military history. If you are planning a museum visit, check the current opening arrangements.

Music festivals and getting there

Since 1995, music festivals featuring an extensive program have been held in Srbská Kamenice during August and September. If you are visiting for the festivals, plan your dates around these months and check the specific program; programs can change from one edition to another.

Srbská Kamenice can be reached by bus from Děčín and Česká Kamenice, and by train from Veselé pod Rabštejnem station. Check the timetables for your travel date, as they can change. This makes it possible to combine the area’s different attractions with practical travel planning.
