Tavíkovice brings together castle history and a striking river landscape: the Rokytná flows through the village, shaping a deep, winding valley. There are also hiking and cycling trails, as well as a natural swimming area. This offers a range of options for planning your trip—from local history to routes through the landscape.
Castle and local history
Tavíkovice Castle is a protected Czech cultural monument; it has been protected since 3 May 1958. The originally single-storey Renaissance building underwent Baroque and Neoclassical alterations. A medieval fortress previously stood on the site of today’s castle. A landscape park dating from the mid-19th century surrounds the castle complex.
The history of the settlement can also be understood through several dates: Tavíkovice dates back to the 11th century, and the village was first mentioned in writing in 1349. These details refer to different historical milestones—the settlement’s origins and its first written mention. Another dated landmark is the Chapel of Our Lady, Mother of Christian Unity: it was completed and consecrated on 19 May 2002.
River landscape and nature park
The Rokytná flows through Tavíkovice in a deep valley characterised by numerous bends in the river and wooded slopes with coniferous and deciduous trees. Those focusing on the landscape will find a different travel interest here from the castle’s history: the valley, the course of the river and the forests define the local landscape.
The 35-kilometre Rokytná Nature Park lies on the border between the Třebíč and Znojmo districts. Its landscape includes meandering waterways, rocks, flat floodplain meadows, scree habitats, and a changing mix of coniferous and deciduous forests. Tavíkovice is considered a smaller centre of the nature park. There is also a natural swimming area in Tavíkovice.
Hiking and cycling
A yellow-marked hiking trail starts on the outskirts of the village and follows a stream downstream into the valley. The protected Valův mlýn, an immovable cultural monument of the Czech Republic, is also on a hiking route from Tavíkovice through the Rokytná Valley. The route descriptions highlight different features: one focuses on the trail markings and stream, while the other describes the route through the valley, with the protected mill as a named destination.
The 81.6-kilometre Mlynářská stezka passes through Tavíkovice. It is a themed cycle route focused on the history of milling. Its activity and theme therefore differ from those of the hiking trails described above. The Nezvalova stezka also has its own history: it opened in a forest setting in 1962.
Pilgrimage and getting there
The programme for the traditional pilgrimage in 2026 included a Mass at the Church of the Virgin Mary, a traditional costumed custom under the Maypole, and rides for children. The events combine religious celebration and tradition with activities for children. If you would like to plan your trip around the pilgrimage, check the event dates for your stay.
Tavíkovice is served by bus routes 811 and 158, which are part of the South Moravian Region Integrated Transport System (IDS JMK). Check the timetable before travelling for your chosen travel date. This will help you plan around the bus connections and, if relevant, the date of the pilgrimage.
