A Hallstatt-era burial mound near Morašice and recurring events in the village calendar offer different perspectives on the place: early burial history and living tradition. If you would like to plan your stay around a particular theme, you can choose from archaeological traces, a memorial to the victims of both world wars, and events in July, October and the Christmas season.
Archaeology and local remembrance
Near Morašice is a Hallstatt-era burial mound that covered a richly furnished grave. It included a wooden burial chamber about 1 metre high, surrounded by stone enclosure walls up to 1 metre wide. The burial mound was originally 4 to 6 metres high and 26 metres in diameter. The structure therefore consists of a burial chamber, a stone enclosure and a burial mound: the chamber lay beneath the mound, while the walls surrounded it. These measurements make the different parts of the burial mound tangible, rather than reducing the structure to the shape of the mound. Its diameter was therefore significantly greater than the mound’s original height.
The memorial to the victims of both world wars was erected and consecrated in 2014. A stone mensa in Morašice bears the coat of arms of the Knights of the Cross with the Red Star, the years 1617 and 1902, and a note about a restoration. You will encounter different historical points of reference here: a memorial explicitly dedicated to the victims of war, and a mensa bearing the order’s coat of arms, dates and a restoration note.
Traditions throughout the year
The Morašice church fair, Posvícení, takes place on the second Sunday in October. In July, the Svatoannenská pouť is part of Morašice’s recurring cultural calendar. For specific visit dates, you can check the current local programme.
Since 2004, the Morašický Betlém has been set up every year in the village square in front of the Morašice cultural centre. Since 2006, 50 to 60 residents have gathered spontaneously and voluntarily at the Betlém every year on Christmas Eve. They exchange good wishes and sing well-known Christmas carols together. The dates offer different options: July, the second Sunday in October or Christmas Eve. If an event determines when you travel, check the programme for the relevant year before planning your overnight stay.
