Those wishing to include cultural history and landscape in their travel plans will find distinct points of interest in Tvořihráz: a little chateau with a long history of use, monuments in the town and the Tvořihrázský les, with its protected forest habitats. A green-marked hiking trail passes through the town; the approximately 45-kilometre Cyklookruh Mikroregionem Moravia cycle route also runs through here. Depending on your interests, you can focus your stay more on history, nature or physical activity.
Cultural history around the little chateau
The little chateau and its farmyard were originally a fortress. At the end of the 17th century, the Dominicans of Znojmo converted it into their summer residence. Its origins as a fortress and its later use as a residence mark two clearly distinct phases in the site’s history. Extensive wine cellars were built on the chateau grounds in 1694. For a long time, sacramental wine was produced there and taken to all the Dominican monasteries in the country. Sacramental wine is the wine used during the Eucharist in church services.
Services are still held on Sundays in the Chapel of St Dominic near the little chateau. Check the service times in advance if you would like to include this in your plans. The town’s history is also reflected in other cultural points of interest: the statue of St John of Nepomuk and the wayside shrine on the road to Horní Dunajovice are listed as cultural monuments. The hamlet of Loucký mlýn on the Jevišovka is another attraction and monument.
Forest, nature conservation and trails
Tvořihrázský les is a Natura 2000 site of European importance. It protects oak-hornbeam forests and habitats of the stag beetle, great capricorn beetle and barbastelle bat. The same forest is also home to surviving burial mounds, historic holloways, ponds and boundary stones. The forest thus combines natural features with traces of the historic landscape, complementing the architectural history of the little chateau with a distinct perspective on the landscape.
A green-marked hiking trail leads from Znojmo through Tvořihráz and on via Plaveč to Hluboké Mašůvky. Check the current trail markings on site. The approximately 45-kilometre Cyklookruh Mikroregionem Moravia cycle route also passes through Tvořihráz and consists partly of paved roads and partly of unpaved trails. These offer different points of reference for planning: the hiking trail is defined by its route and named places, while the cycle route is characterised by its approximate total length and changing surfaces. You can weigh up whether you would prefer a sequence of named places or a circular route with mixed surfaces.
The Mlynářská stezka trail also passes through Tvořihráz on its section in the Znojemsko region. It was newly marked from 2025; check the current trail markings before setting out.
