A nature trail almost five kilometres long and an 84-kilometre cycling route set two very different scales in Rybníky. There are also notable landmarks from the town’s history: a chapel connected to a 13th-century church, the Neo-Gothic Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius, and a watermill whose present-day building dates from 1804. Nature, sacred architecture and local events thus come together.

Hiking and cycling on different scales

The “Mezi poli a lesy” nature trail begins at Rybníky’s recycling centre and runs for almost five kilometres around Rybníky. Its information panels share facts about the local nature and landscape. The route thus combines a clearly stated distance with a specific focus: nature and landscape take centre stage.

The “Živé pomezí Krumlovsko–Jevišovicko” cycling route passes through Rybníky; it is 84 kilometres long and is not a circuit. As an established regional cycling project, it is on a different scale from the nature trail. The comparison makes the choice clear: on the nature trail, the local route and information panels are the focus; on the cycling route, it is the much greater distance and non-circular course. If you are choosing an outing based on distance and mode of travel, you can compare these details directly.

Chapel, church and watermill

St Margaret’s Chapel stands in isolation in a cemetery, about one kilometre from Rybníky in the direction of Moravský Krumlov. It is located in the former presbytery of a 13th-century church. Topanov was a medieval settlement that disappeared in the 17th century.

The Neo-Gothic Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius stands in the village itself. It was consecrated on 25 July 1877. The comparison with St Margaret’s Chapel brings the different historical periods into focus: the history of a 13th-century church and Topanov’s disappearance in the 17th century on the one hand, and the precise consecration date in the 19th century on the other. This offers two clearly distinct historical points of reference.

The watermill also has two historical dates that should be distinguished: it was first mentioned in 1707, while the present-day building dates from 1804. These dates refer to different milestones, not competing construction dates. The mill is occasionally used for social events.

Wine and local events

The traditional wine tasting in Rybníky is organised by ZO ČZS Rybníky; the 2026 edition is the 59th. Another edition of the “Sraz vozatajů a přátel koní” gathering in Rybníky features competitions for single, pair and four-horse teams, as well as carriage races for ponies, children and cold-blooded horses. If you want to plan your trip around an event, check the specific date in advance.
