A chapel dating from 1896 beside the municipal office and a 90-kilometre cycle route that passes through the village reveal two different sides of Čermákovice. There are also historical traces, ranging from early settlement to preserved architectural forms. Local history and cycling sit side by side as you consider whether Čermákovice is right for your trip.

Local History and Historical Traces

The area around Čermákovice was already settled in the Neolithic period. The village is first mentioned in writing in 1270. These details answer different questions: the Neolithic period points to early settlement in the area, while 1270 marks the first written mention of the village. Throughout its history, Čermákovice has been exclusively agricultural in character.

The Chapel of St James the Greater stands right beside the municipal office and dates from 1896. A lime tree in the village was planted in 1937 in memory of the death of T. G. Masaryk. The chapel is a dated building, while the lime tree commemorates a specific event.

While the chapel remains standing, the former fortress has almost completely disappeared without a trace. However, a depression and a change in ground level can be seen in the gardens belonging to residential houses, recalling the medieval structure. Unlike a surviving building, the fortress is remembered here through landforms.

Alinkov: Farmstead, Mill and Sgraffito

The Alinkov farmstead is a preserved, enclosed rectangular courtyard complex. The complex includes an adjoining residential building with a mill. The building features sgraffito decorations on its façade. Sgraffito is a façade technique in which patterns are carved out of layers of plaster. The courtyard complex describes the overall form of the property, while the sgraffito is a detail on its façade. Alinkov was also a historic Anabaptist settlement. The farmstead is privately owned.

Cycle Route and Nature Park

Cycle Route No. 5006 runs from Znojmo via Moravský Krumlov to Jevišovice, passing through Čermákovice along the way. The route is 90 kilometres long, runs mostly on paved roads and is suitable for all types of bicycles.

When planning your trip, it is useful to distinguish between the full route and the village’s place on it: the 90 kilometres refers to the entire cycle route, while Čermákovice is one of the places along its course. This helps you include the passage through the village in a broader cycling itinerary without treating the entire route as a local section.

Part of the municipal area of Čermákovice lies within Rokytná Nature Park. Trip planning therefore involves two different geographical points of reference: the cycle route that passes through the village and the nature park designation, which covers only part of the municipal area. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can first decide whether local history or Cycle Route 5006 is the main focus of your trip.
