Trnové Pole combines a gently hilly landscape shaped by extensive fields with a local history reflected in historic names and surviving architectural features. This offers two perspectives for planning a trip: the surrounding landscape and the history of the village itself.
Landscape and location
The landscape region is called Dyjsko-svratecký úval; Trnové Pole lies between the Trnovopolská svodnice and Suchý potok watercourses. Gentle hills and extensive fields define the surrounding area. The regional landscape name and the two watercourses describe different aspects of the location: the broader natural region and its more precise geographical setting.
Names and local history
Trnové Pole was originally known as Dornfeld and later as Drnopole. The first written mention of the village dates from 1785. The history of its names and its first written record are two distinct aspects: the names mark a succession of designations, while 1785 is the year of the first written mention.
A local historical account places the former village a few hundred metres to the east, in the direction of Vlasatice, and links the village’s relocation to the Napoleonic campaign. During the campaign, a plague epidemic struck the former village, wiping out almost the entire original German population. The survivors founded present-day Trnové Pole at its current location. The local history thus distinguishes the former settlement site from the founding of the present-day village.
Wayside shrine and other historical features
A wayside shrine survives on the outskirts of Trnové Pole and is considered an important historical monument of the municipality. It stands on the road to Jiřice. The massive, prismatic structure has shallow niches on all sides. “Prismatic” describes the shape of the structure; the niches are arranged all around it, not just on one façade.
A cross also survives on the outskirts, and a niche chapel is another local attraction. Together with the wayside shrine, the cross and niche chapel add religious structures and memorials to the village’s history.
Road and cycling connections
An official regional transport network description from 2020 names road II/415, which passes through Trnové Pole and connects I/53 with Hrušovany nad Jevišovkou there. The “Za půvaby úvalu” cycle route runs through Trnové Pole and continues to Jiřice u Miroslavi. These are two different ways to navigate the area: a road connection and a cycle route with different destinations.
There are also cycle paths in the area around Trnové Pole. Walking trails are suitable for nature excursions. The options differ in focus: the named cycle route passes through the village and continues to Jiřice u Miroslavi, while the walking trails are suitable for nature excursions in the surrounding area.
