The valley of the Našiměřický potok runs from west to southeast through the middle of the cadastral area of Miroslavské Knínice. Most of this area is agricultural land. The town also lies on the boundary between the Bobravská vrchovina and the Dyjskosvratecký úval. The stream, agricultural landscape and location between the highlands and basin give you several points of reference for understanding the character of the destination.

Castle and Landscape Park

The castle in the park is listed as a cultural monument. The two-storey, two-wing building has four wings enclosing a trapezoidal courtyard. This description makes the layout easy to picture: at its centre is a courtyard whose sides form a trapezoid rather than a simple rectangle. The castle is surrounded by a natural-style landscape park. The castle park is also among the protected parts of the listed immovable cultural monument. The building and park are therefore both part of the protected monument site.

Church and Protected Beech Trees

The filial Church of Saint Nicholas is another historic landmark. It is early Gothic and dates from the second half of the 13th century. The statue of Saint John of Nepomuk is also listed as an immovable cultural monument in the town. Together, the church and statue give the town’s history a religious and heritage dimension alongside the castle.

A natural monument has also been designated in the castle park: the protected feature “Dvojice červených buků v zámeckém parku Miroslavské Knínice” (Pair of red beeches in Miroslavské Knínice Castle Park). The two European beeches were first designated on 30 June 2015; the protected feature is classified as a group of trees. Thus, the history of the castle ensemble and a specifically named natural monument come together in the park.

Local Traditions

Several customs are part of the traditional “Zarážení hory” event at the Chapel of Saint Urban: blessing the harvest, symbolically closing the vineyard, raising a maypole and appointing vineyard guards. These elements bring together religious and winemaking traditions. A pilgrimage and a church feast on the Sunday around Saint Wenceslas Day, 28 September, are also associated with the filial Church of Saint Nicholas. Visitors interested in the town’s cultural life will find both a connection to winemaking and church traditions here.

Cycling Through the Town

Cycle Route 5009 passes through Miroslavské Knínice. It runs mostly along paved Class II and III roads, which are suitable for all types of bicycles. This is a useful point of reference when planning a bike ride; the route is not described as a fully segregated cycle path. Local conditions may change, so it is advisable to check the route’s condition before setting out.

When choosing a destination, you can follow your interests by considering these local highlights: the castle and protected park, the early Gothic church and religious traditions, winemaking, or the cycle route that passes through the town.
