A circular trail of approximately ten kilometres and several distinctive religious buildings give you concrete starting points for a stay in Lovčice. You can get to know the area through its trails and landscape, or through its churches, chapels and traditional events.
Hiking and landscape
A green-marked hiking trail, a cycle route and the Ždánickým lesem nature trail run through Lovčice. The Žd. lesem nature trail forms a closed loop of approximately 10 kilometres. If you prefer a circuit rather than a route that ends somewhere else, this gives you a clear point of reference for your planning. The hiking trail, cycle route and nature trail appeal to different interests and do not need to be combined into a single route.
Lovčice lies on the southern edge of the Ždánický les Nature Park. The surrounding landscape is shaped by forests, orchards, fields and vineyards. The confluence of the Lovčický potok and Jordánek streams is also in the village. These details offer two different perspectives on the area: its green surroundings and its location where the two waterways meet.
Churches and architectural history
The Church of St Peter and Paul stands in the centre of Lovčice, within the enclosure of a former cemetery surrounded by a wall. The church building dates from 1805 and was built in the Empire style. Inside, mosaics by Antonín Klouda of Prague adorn the church. Its location, construction date and design make it an important point of reference when exploring the village centre.
Another architectural feature is the Fara rectory in Lovčice. Built in 1914, the building belongs to the Modern movement. Its façade features a fresco depicting Christ as the Good Shepherd, created by academic painter Jano Köhler. Compared with the Church of St Peter and Paul, the rectory belongs to a later period and shows how varied the religious architecture in Lovčice is.
Chapels and views
The chapel in Kučí lies above Lovčice, surrounded by fields. Large lime trees make it visible from afar. In the Roubaniny district stands the Chapel of Panny Marie, a vernacular building that probably dates from the 18th century. It offers a view and seating in the shade of two old lime trees. If you are planning to use this seating for a break, check on site whether it is available.
There is also visitor seating at Kříž na Hraničkách, along with a picturesque view of the landscape of Moravian Tuscany. Seating may change; if it is important to your plans, it is worth checking on site. The chapel in Roubaniny and the viewpoint at Kříž each offer a reason to take in the landscape and surroundings.
Traditional events and succulents
Lovčice traditionally celebrates krojované hody on the third Sunday in October. The Petropavelský výlet is traditionally held in June. These provide two different timeframes for a visit focused on local festivals. The exact dates may vary from year to year, so check them before your trip.
Another special attraction is Ráj sukulentů u Honců. The collection is housed in a greenhouse near a former forester’s lodge and includes more than 1,000 species of succulents; its size may change over time. In connection with Ráj sukulentů, Jaroslav Honc regularly holds exhibitions in Lovčice twice a year. Check the exhibition dates locally. You can plan your trip around either the traditional festivals or the exhibitions, without needing to schedule both for the same visit.
