Stavěšice combines local history with cultural events that can be planned around in different ways. The Chapel of St. Florian stands on the site of a former meeting house of the Bohemian Brethren; there is also a municipal museum, krojované hody (traditional folk festivities), and other events. When planning your trip, it is worth checking the festival date and the arrangements for visiting the museum in advance.
History at a Single Site
A community of the Bohemian Brethren built a meeting house in Stavěšice in 1583. The Chapel of St. Florian now stands on its former site. It was built in 1730 and renovated in 1998–1999. The connection between the two buildings links the history of the Bohemian Brethren with the later building history of the chapel at the same location.
Stavěšice is first mentioned in 1389; archaeological finds point to earlier settlement. The year therefore marks the first mention, not the beginning of settlement.
Local Culture and Event Dates
The krojované hody take place on the first Saturday in May after the feast of St. Florian on May 4 and are considered the largest cultural event of the year. The exact date may vary from year to year, so check it before planning your stay around the festival.
The Babí lom cimbalom band has been based in Stavěšice since 2002 and performs at folklore and other events in the municipality and its immediate surroundings. Other events include tastings of wine, slivovitz, and spreads. The chapel provides a way to explore local history independently of the event calendar; for the hody, performances, and tastings, however, the specific dates are what matter. If you are mainly interested in a music or tasting event, check its individual date.
Museum and Chapel
The Stavěšice Municipal Museum has a diverse collection of objects from Stavěšice and the surrounding area. The collection adds to the picture of local history with objects from the village and its surroundings. Visits are possible during the krojované hody or by prior arrangement with the municipal office. If the museum is a key part of your plans, time your visit for the festival or arrange a visit in advance.
Mass is regularly celebrated in the Chapel of St. Florian. If you would like to attend a service, check the current schedule with the parish; service times may change.
Route and Horse-Riding Training
The Kyjov Wine Trail passes through Nenkovice and Stavěšice, below the summit of Babí lom, before continuing to Strážovice. This sequence of places locates Stavěšice along the route and connects the village with other named stops. As route details can change, it is a good idea to check the current route if you are planning individual stages.
Koňské údolí Stavěšice offers children structured horse-riding training, from beginner level through to preparation for competitive sport. If children’s riding lessons fit into your travel plans, ask the provider about current program availability before your trip.
