In Lipov, local history and folklore meet tangible connections to nature: the Church of All Saints stands in the village centre, while a narrow strip of the White Carpathians Protected Landscape Area runs along a road at the southern edge. There is also a blue-marked hiking route, a cycle route through the cadastral area and a municipal swimming pool on the Velička. Lipov lies in the Moravian part of the White Carpathians and is one of the villages in the distinctive ethnographic region of Horňácko. You can therefore make culture, landscape and outdoor activity different focal points of your trip.
Church, Traditional Dress and Folklore
The parish Church of All Saints is Lipov’s most important landmark and is located in the village centre. The year 1880 stands out in its building history: a new Church of All Saints in the Neo-Romanesque style was built on the site of the former church. The interior of the Church of All Saints is characterised by wooden galleries and a decorated wooden ceiling. Its central location and architectural details thus offer two different perspectives on the village’s appearance, alongside the history of the church site.
The LIPOVJAN folklore ensemble was founded in 1972 and is named after Lipov. Local traditional dress also reflects several periods: today’s dress differs from that of other Horňácko communities due to influences from the neighbouring areas of Strážnicko, Veselsko and Ostrožsko. Lipov’s old traditional dress was reconstructed in 2000. This difference between today’s dress and the reconstructed older clothing offers a particularly informative glimpse into regional culture.
Events include Lipovský fašanek, Lipovské hody and the preview of the Mladé Horňácko folklore festival. LIPOVJAN also organises the church feast, the Štěpánská beseda u cimbálu and Christmas carol singing. As part of the annual Májová beseda u cimbálu, the ensemble hosts a regional round of the competition for the best dancer of the Slovácko Verbuňk dance every two years. If you are travelling for an event, check the current dates in advance.
Wine-growing also has a direct connection to Lipov: AGROLIP produces country wines, quality wines and wines with designated quality from grapes grown in its own vineyards in the cadastral areas of Lipov and Louka. Together with the folklore events and traditional dress, this gives the village a cultural profile that brings together different regional traditions.
Nature on the Edge of the Village
At Lipov’s southern edge, a narrow strip of the White Carpathians Protected Landscape Area runs along the road from Tasov to Hrubá Vrbka. Another natural feature is Háj u Lipova: this is a protected natural monument, first designated on 4 July 1956. It protects a site where the rare two-leaved squill grows. These two designations represent different scales: a protected-area strip along a road and a natural monument with a specifically named conservation subject.
Hiking, Cycling and Swimming Pool
A blue-marked hiking route passes through Lipov. It runs towards Veselí nad Moravou, or in the opposite direction to Velká nad Veličkou and onwards to Velká Javořina. These directions give you a concrete point of reference when choosing a hiking route; check the current trail markings before setting off.
The Horňácký circuit cycle route passes through the cadastral area of Lipov. Its geographical reference therefore differs from that of the hiking route, which passes through Lipov. Check current cycling maps before setting off. This lets you choose a route according to the destinations described and the appropriate means of transport, without assuming that the two routes are connected.
Koupaliště Lipov is located on the Velička in the foothills of the White Carpathians. The municipal swimming pool has a stainless-steel pool measuring 33 × 20 metres. There is also a 6 × 6 metre paddling pool, a slide and a beach volleyball court. If you would like to include the swimming pool in your travel plans, check its seasonal opening schedule in advance.
