Zámek Rosice castle stands on a hill above the confluence of the Bobrava and Říčanský potok streams. It was created around the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries by rebuilding a Gothic castle. The visitor route includes 21 rooms with richly decorated stucco ceilings, decorative wall paintings and Renaissance-painted ceilings. It also features period furniture, pictures, hunting trophies, tableware and other historical everyday objects. The castle is listed as a cultural monument and has a rare collection of Renaissance and Baroque stucco ceilings.

The castle’s visitor attractions also include an atomic shelter built in 1965. It provides a contrast in time to the castle’s older history: alongside the castle’s architecture and furnishings, a much more recent chapter is also part of the visit.

Trails and landscape

The Naučná stezka Mizející krajina? trail connects Rosice with Ostrovačice and runs for about 3.5 kilometres through fields along a green-marked hiking route. Highlights include a viewing walkway over a former pond, a gate at the cadastral boundary and a rest area by the stream next to a covered bridge. The route thus combines open fields with several distinctive points along the way.

Rosická obora also offers a glimpse into the history of the landscape: the remains of Rosice’s historic water supply system are still preserved there. These include several ventilation shafts and a haltýř, a structure in which water was collected. Together with Kamenný most, which crosses the Bobrava, is cut into the rocky riverbank and is considered an engineering curiosity in Czechia, this topic broadens the focus beyond castle and religious architecture to include local construction and water engineering.

Chapel, church and traditions

Kaple Nejsvětější Trojice is a Baroque chapel with a triangular floor plan and a crypt. A lime-tree avenue lined with trees 80 to 190 years old leads to it; alongside runs a Stations of the Cross dating from 1773, with twelve stone wayside shrines. The chapel is considered a historic, symbolic landmark of Rosice and is associated with an annual pilgrimage tradition.

The church of sv. Martina features a distinctive vaulted detail: its nave has a barrel vault with lunettes, side vault sections that cut into the main vault.

Rosické hody is a revived folk and festival tradition. At the 2025 event, a procession in traditional costumes set off from the castle courtyard; a blessing was held at the church of sv. Martina. If you are planning a future visit around the festival, check the dates and programme, as the schedule and format may vary.

Leisure and practical planning

Koupaliště Zátoka Rosice biologically purifies its water using a special dolomite limestone substrate. The grounds include a beach volleyball court and a pétanque court. As their availability may change, check before your visit whether both courts are open for use. Koupaliště is accessible via the Rosice, Trávníky bus stop, served by routes 153, 405 and 423. Check the timetable before travelling.

Včelařské muzeum adds beekeeping to the cultural and historical themes. Its facilities include a permanent exhibition and the library of the Czech Beekeepers’ Association, as well as a 19,000 m² open-air museum with modern and historic beehouses. The museum is currently being renovated; check current access arrangements before visiting.
