A fortified church, a Gothic water fortress and a preserved river meander give Nosislav several clearly distinct points of interest. The historic buildings tell the story of defensive architecture and religious development, while the shape of the river takes centre stage at the Nosislavská zátočina. There are also two routes described in different ways, as well as a traditional wine and burčák event in September. When choosing your travel dates and thematic focus, you can therefore weigh up culture, river landscape and a seasonal event.

Churches and Defensive Architecture

The Catholic Church of sv. Jakuba Staršího is the only fortified church in the Brno-venkov district. Its fortifications include a bastion at the southeast corner and numerous loopholes, and stand 4 to 8 metres high. These features make defensive architecture a prominent theme in the town. The Protestant church offers a different emphasis: this protected 19th-century building was constructed in the Neo-Romanesque style and is a historic testament to the development of religion in Moravia. It has been protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic since 1993 and is listed under registration number 8554.

The Nosislavská vodní tvrz

The Nosislavská vodní tvrz is another architectural highlight. The protected monument complex includes the Gothic tvrz at No. 72, its annex and the covered entrance staircase. The most valuable lower section of the wall, a bay window in the house and a painted ceiling have survived; the massive walls have a Gothic floor plan. This sets the architectural focus apart from that of the Catholic church: there, the emphasis is on defensive architecture with a bastion and loopholes; here, it is on the Gothic floor plan and surviving structural features.

River Landscape and Routes

The Nosislavská zátočina is one of the last surviving meanders on the lower reaches of the Svratka, where the river retains the character of a natural watercourse lined with riverside vegetation. Its features include a double meander, sandy beaches, gravel banks and steep, eroded banks. This offers a clear choice of themes: on one side are the churches and tvrz; on the other, the natural river course and its riverside vegetation.

The “Po hranici parku” cycling loop passes through Židlochovice, Nosislav and Blučina. The Svatojakubská cesta runs along the left bank of the Svratka to the Boudecký Bridge. This is a useful distinction when choosing a route: one description highlights a loop through three towns, while the other focuses on the route along the river’s left bank to a named destination.

Wine and Burčák in September

At “Otevřené sklepy Nosislav,” visitors taste wines and burčák from local winemakers. Traditionally, the event takes place on the first Saturday in September from 12 noon. If you are planning your trip specifically around it, check the dates for the relevant edition.
