If you are considering Hvozdec as a travel destination, you can plan your stay around clearly distinct themes: marked hiking trails, the Trůn viewpoint, a sports facility and local cultural attractions. The directions and endpoints of the hiking trails are particularly specific. They offer a practical starting point for deciding whether hiking, wheeled activities or local history should be the focus of your stay.

Hiking by direction and destination

The green-marked hiking trail from Hvozdec heads west through Javůrecké polesí and the municipality of Javůrek to Hotel Devět křížů. Its direction and named intermediate places make the route easy to follow.

The route heading east is also marked green: it passes through the settlement of Obora and ends at the Masaryk Ring. The yellow-marked hiking trail passes the Ríšova studánka spring and heads towards the Brno Reservoir. The routes therefore differ in their compass direction, destinations and connection to the spring.

When choosing a hike, the main points of reference are clear: a western destination, an eastern endpoint, or a route that passes a spring and leads towards the reservoir. This helps you shape your hiking plans around the places named for each route.

Views and activities

The walk-on Trůn photo point in Hvozdec offers views over the former estate of Veveří Castle and beyond. It is also a place to take photographs. The site is near the meeting point of the cadastral areas of Hvozdec, Veverské Knínice and Javůrek, beside an old, spreading oak. The views and location give the photo point two distinct features: a panorama over the region and a prominent spot between the cadastral areas.

The Hvozdec pump track can be used with mountain bikes, BMX bikes, longboards, skateboards, inline skates, scooters and children's balance bikes. The list includes various types of bikes as well as other wheeled sports equipment. If you are looking for an activity, you can consider the pump track as a dedicated option alongside the hiking trails.

The Tour de Veveří is open to walkers, cyclists, runners and visitors with strollers. Its routes pass through Říčany, Javůrek, Veverské Knínice, Hvozdec, Veverská Bítýška, Chudčice and Rozdrojovice. These seven municipalities belong to the former estate of Veveří Castle. Unlike the individual hiking trails starting from Hvozdec, this tour covers the wider region and takes in several places.

History and regional destinations

The first written mention of Hvozdec dates back to 1317. At that time, Kateřina, the widow of Tas of Lomnice, donated the village of Hvozdec, including its farmstead and settlers, among other properties, to the Convent of St Anne in Brno. This early mention links the village’s name to a specific donation and to the components of the village named at the time.

Veveří Castle stands northeast of Hvozdec on the right bank of the Brno Reservoir. It is one of the largest castle complexes in the Czech Republic; its first mention dates back to 1213. For historical context, the two dates refer to different places: 1213 is the first mention of the castle, while 1317 is the first written mention of Hvozdec.

Another cultural destination is Jarošův mlýn in Veverská Bítýška, 4 km away. The mill is an important cultural monument and currently serves as a museum of the miller’s craft and as a gallery. Alongside the castle, the region therefore also offers a place with a clearly defined museum focus and a gallery function.
