Horní Loučky brings together two themes to consider when choosing a place to stay: a hilly landscape on the southeastern edge of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands, and a local history made tangible through a chapel, memorials and historical dates. The landscape tells of waterways and steep slopes; the memorials bring individual people, families and events into view. The result is not a single focus on attractions, but an interplay between the natural environment and local memory.

Hilly landscape and the Bobrůvka floodplain

The Bobrůvka, also called the Loučka, flows through Horní Loučky for a short stretch, forming a wider floodplain there. This is a distinctive landscape feature within the hilly surroundings: the river opens out into a floodplain, while the area is also shaped by deeply incised stream valleys. The terrain includes very steep, rocky slopes in places and a narrow floodplain. These contrasting landforms sit side by side: the wider floodplain along the Bobrůvka and the narrower, deeply cut valleys.

For planning your trip, this contrast offers a concrete way to appreciate the character of the place. The landscape is revealed not only through the name of the river, but also through the interplay of valley, slope and floodplain. Those interested in the natural environment and terrain can therefore view Horní Loučky from two perspectives: along the Bobrůvka and its wider floodplain, and through the steep, sometimes rocky slopes that shape the area.

Historical traces and memorials

The history can also be traced through several dates. Horní Loučky is documented in writing from 1353. In 1502, the two villages of Loučky, a ruined castle, a rectory and a farm were sold to Jan and Václav of Lomnice. On 16 April 1519, the castle site and the village of Horní Loučky were sold to the Tišnov Monastery. The dates serve different purposes: 1353 marks the written record, while 1502 and 1519 record specific sales. The local history thus encompasses not just one moment, but also later events involving named places and properties.

The Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary stands in Horní Loučky. Near the chapel is the First World War memorial to the fallen. It is made of gneiss and bears a marble plaque with the names of nine local people. The bust of Hynek Kokojan depicts a local man from Horní Loučky in uniform with decorations. The sculptor Josef Baják created the bust in 1946. The memorial and the bust have different emphases: the marble plaque names nine people, while the bust portrays one individual. Together, they illustrate distinct forms of commemoration—through names and material on the one hand, and the depiction of a local person on the other.

Another trace of local history is the marble cross in the fields beside the road to Kaly. It stands between two lime trees and was donated by the Halouzkova family in 1920. There is also a sandstone cross in the village square. Its pedestal bears the date 1864; the date 1883 was apparently added later. The corpus is gilded. The two crosses therefore differ both in location and in the details that distinguish them: the marble cross names the donor family and the year it was donated, while the two dates and gilded corpus define the appearance of the sandstone cross.

Two perspectives to guide your choice

When deciding what interests you most about Horní Loučky, you can weigh the landscape and cultural heritage as two different focal points. The Bobrůvka and its floodplain represent the terrain; the dates 1353, 1502 and 1519, along with the chapel, memorials and crosses, offer a way into the history of the place. Both are part of Horní Loučky’s character, but they offer different emphases. You can shape your stay around whether you would rather focus on the landscape or on the specific historical traces.
