Vavřinec brings together several distinct reasons to visit: views and trails at Podvrší, the history of beekeeping in Veselice, and the ruins of Blansko Castle. A large part of the municipality lies directly within the Moravian Karst Protected Landscape Area. When planning your visit, it is worth grouping destinations by their particular focus; this lets you experience the landscape, trails and culture from different perspectives.

Views and Trails at Podvrší

The Podvrší observation tower is situated on Podvrší Hill, at 590 m, the highest point in the municipality. Its viewing platform is 32 m above the base of the tower and offers a panoramic view of the nearby and more distant surroundings. The two elevation figures refer to different points: 590 m is the elevation of the hill, while 32 m is the platform’s height above the tower’s base. This lets you distinguish the municipality’s highest point from the height of the viewing level on the tower.

A blue hiking trail runs right next to the tower, and cycle route 5116 follows this trail. The route information makes it easy to choose between walking and cycling: the hiking trail passes directly by the viewpoint, and the cycle route runs along it.

Beekeeping and Historical Traces

The Museum of Beekeeping in the Moravian Karst is located in Veselice and presents the history of beekeeping in the Moravian Karst. It is a visitor attraction run by the Municipality of Vavřinec. If you want to include a regional cultural theme alongside the landscape, the history of beekeeping offers a focus of its own.

The ruins of Blansko Castle are within the Municipality of Vavřinec and can be reached from Nové Dvory. The path to the ruins is lined by the Tereziánská linden avenue. The castle was probably founded in the mid-12th century. This gives you both a historical date and a specific approach to the site from Nové Dvory to help put it in context.

Hiking and Finding Your Way

A walk can help you get to know the Municipality of Vavřinec. The car park by the cultural centre in Veselice is one possible starting point for exploring. If you plan to start there, check the current parking situation before setting off.

Kateřinská Cave is within the Municipality of Vavřinec, in the area of Suchý and Pustý žleb. It is best reached from Blansko. For planning purposes, its location and the direction of access are two separate details: the cave lies within Vavřinec, but Blansko is the best point from which to reach it.

The starting points can also be distinguished: the car park in Veselice can serve as a base for exploring the municipality, while Blansko is the key access point for Kateřinská Cave. This lets you take both the theme of each destination and the most suitable route into account when choosing where to go.
