A pilgrimage church, a memorial oak with a chapel and traditional Hody give Týnec several cultural landmarks. A 31-kilometre cycling route from Břeclav to Hodonín also passes through the village. When planning a trip, you can therefore choose between sacred architectural history, a tradition with specific late-summer dates and a cycling connection through flat terrain. The order of the cultural events is particularly important: the main pilgrimage takes place on 29 August, followed by Hody in early September.

Pilgrimage Church and Memorial Oak

The pilgrimage church of the Beheading of Saint John the Baptist was built in the third quarter of the 18th century and is listed as a cultural monument. It links a specific period of construction with Týnec’s religious history. Its dedication also connects the church in meaning with the Feast of the Beheading of Saint John the Baptist, on which the main pilgrimage takes place. A memorial oak stands at the edge of the village, next to a chapel. An image of Our Lady of Perpetual Help is displayed on the oak, and a legend is associated with it. The chapel beneath the oak was built in 1891. The dates of construction distinguish the two places of worship, while the oak and image form a separate layer of remembrance and tradition.

Main Pilgrimage and Hody

The main pilgrimage takes place on the Feast of the Beheading of Saint John the Baptist, 29 August. The traditional Hody “pod zeleným” follow in early September, after this feast, and are considered the village’s most important social event. Thus, two distinct occasions take place in sequence: the pilgrimage on a specific feast day, followed by Hody as a traditional village event. About 80 to 100 unmarried young men and women in costume take part in Hody. If you want to travel specifically for either occasion, plan around the event you wish to attend and check the current annual programme locally in advance.

Cycling through Týnec

The cycling route from Břeclav to Hodonín passes through Týnec and is 31 kilometres long. It runs through flat terrain against the current of the Morava River. The distance refers to the connection between the two endpoints, while the terrain and direction of the current describe different features of the route. Týnec is therefore on a longer route, not at either its starting point or its endpoint. If cycling is your main focus, you can treat the regional route as a separate planning framework and distinguish it from the cultural events. The route length and the local event calendar are two different points of reference for your stay.

How to Plan Around the Cultural Events and Cycling Route

The three themes answer different planning questions. The church, oak and chapel give the village a cultural and historical focus; the pilgrimage and Hody make the specific late-summer dates relevant. The cycling route locates Týnec between Břeclav and Hodonín and is described as a 31-kilometre connection in total. For a trip to an event, the relevant date is therefore key, while cycling plans start with the route’s endpoints and course.
