Starovice brings local history together with a wine trail that passes through the municipality. The Church of St George and St Nicholas and its associated rectory shape the village square; at the same time, the Velkopavlovická Wine Trail passes through Starovice. This offers two distinct focal points for planning a visit: historic buildings in the village and a route with views of the surrounding landscape.

Village Square and Architectural History

The Church of St George and St Nicholas was built in the 16th century. A notable stage in its architectural history followed in 1885: during a major renovation, a nave was built over a vaulted stream bed. A nave is the main space of a church; here, its construction is directly connected with the history of the stream bed. Visitors interested in the development of religious architecture will find a specific detail in Starovice that goes beyond the date of construction.

Other monuments are spread across different parts of the village. A statue of St Anthony stands in the village square, and a cross depicting Christ, dating from 1792, stands next to the church. Beside the municipal office is a Baroque statue of the Immaculata from 1741. South of Starovice, a statue of St Gothard stands in the fields. Their different locations make it possible to consider the local monuments not only by age, but also by their place in the village setting.

Starovice’s chapel also has a specific history connected with the road: in 2005, it was moved three metres because it protruded into the roadway. Together with the older churches and statues, this more recent event shows another facet of the village’s history—a change prompted by the chapel’s position beside the road.

Wine Trail, Landscape, and Cellars

The Velkopavlovická Wine Trail passes through Starovice and runs between Popice and Hustopeče. Around Starovice, it offers views of vineyards and apricot orchards. The landscape therefore includes orchards as well as vineyards. Visitors planning to stop in Starovice along this route can also connect the village with the two other named stops along the trail.

Wine cellars are also part of the local connection to wine: many remain in their original condition and are still used for their intended purpose. This adds an architectural dimension to the landscape. For a stay, you can weigh different interests: the course of the Wine Trail, the surrounding views, or the preserved cellars.

Plan Your Visit and Travel

The Krojované hody took place in Starovice from 23 to 25 August 2024 and from 22 to 24 August 2025. If you would like to plan your stay around the festival, check the dates for your intended travel year in advance. The two periods listed refer to these specific editions; they do not establish a date for a future year.

There are two bus stops in Starovice: Starovice obec and Starovice–rozcestí. Check the timetable and the appropriate connection for your travel dates. By car, road 00220 runs through Starovice and joins road 425 after approximately 700 metres. The D2 motorway can be reached via road 425 at Hustopeče. The approximately 700-metre distance refers to the connection between the roads, not to travel time.

When choosing accommodation in Starovice, the focus of your stay is a useful point of comparison: would you mainly like to explore the historic buildings, include the Wine Trail in your plans, or continue your journey via the road connection? This lets you make your choice according to your plans without combining the different sights and connections into a single visit itinerary.
