Lanžhot brings together a floodplain landscape, regional folk culture and a marked cycling route that passes through its cadastral area. This offers a choice of different focuses: natural surroundings, local history and outdoor activity. When planning a stay, you can first decide whether protected habitats and cycling, or the museum, historical connections and a recurring festival, matter most. This range makes Lanžhot an interesting destination for a trip where nature and local culture both play a part.

Floodplain landscape and protected habitats

Lanžhot lies in the floodplain of the Dyje and Morava rivers; characteristic floodplain forests and meadows are found nearby. Part of the Lanžhotské pralesy National Nature Reserve lies within Lanžhot’s cadastral area. The reserve protects floodplain forests, oak-hornbeam forests, reed beds, tall-sedge stands, meadows and pastures, as well as aquatic plant communities. The protected features therefore extend beyond the forest: wetlands, grasslands and aquatic plants are also among the habitats mentioned. The floodplain landscape shapes the surrounding area, while the reserve focuses on specific habitats and their protection.

The Moravská stezka through Lanžhot

The marked Moravská stezka cycling route passes through Lanžhot’s cadastral area. From there, it first runs along Obora Soutok; it then follows Hraniční cesta to Břeclav. Beyond this section, the route connects the Jeseníky Mountains with South Moravia. This gives route planning two scales to consider: a named section as far as Břeclav and a longer connection between the mountains and the region. If you are considering Lanžhot primarily for cycling, you can take both the local route section and its wider regional connection into account.

Folk culture and local history

Lanžhot Museum presents folk culture through historical household furnishings, historical clothing, and both old and contemporary local folk costumes. Together, these objects and styles of dress offer a glimpse into several forms of local folk culture. Another historical reference is the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross: a record from 1373 mentions the parish school and the church. The date thus provides a historical point of reference for the church’s mention. The museum and the historical record offer different ways to explore the town’s cultural history.

Lanžhotské hody is a recurring three-day celebration. On Saturday, a hand-built maypole structure is erected across the entire square; the traditional song “Tá lanžhocká mája tenká…” is sung to mark the conclusion. The account of the celebration combines a specific festival custom with a traditional song. If you would like to include hody in your travel plans, check the specific festival dates before your trip.

Sports facilities and practical travel information

The Sokolské sports complex includes an inline skating track, a fitness room, a children’s playground and a workout playground, tennis courts, and a pétanque court. The facilities listed offer a range of ways to exercise and play. Another facility in Lanžhot is the pump track, completed and opened to the public in 2025. It is for children, teenagers and adults to ride bicycles, scooters, balance bikes, skateboards and inline skates. The sports complex and the pump track offer different things: one brings together several named facilities, while the other is designed for riding a variety of wheeled equipment.

For train travellers, buying tickets at Lanžhot station is a separate point to consider when planning: tickets have not been sold there since 1 March 2015. Travellers can buy tickets on the train, at the ČD Centre at Břeclav station, or through online applications. As sales options can change, check the current arrangements before departure.
