Moravský Žižkov combines a long winemaking tradition with the historic Agrární cellar quarter, distinctive religious buildings, and paths through vineyards and orchards. For planning your trip, this means more than a single sight to visit: you can explore cellar culture, architectural history, and the landscape as distinct highlights. Options include the Žižkovská Wine Trail, as well as walks and bike rides around the Žižkovský Pond.

Winemaking and the cellar quarter

The historically named Agrární cellar quarter represents the long-standing connection between winemaking and folklore in Moravský Žižkov. At its center is a small square with old agricultural machinery and seating; wine cellars surround it on two sides. On the Žižkovská Wine Trail, you can explore the largest wine cellar complex in the Benátky part of the village and walk along Agrární’s oldest wine cellar lane, on foot or by bike. The traditional “Zarážení hory” event took place at the Agrární cellar complex on September 2, 2023. If you want to include an event in your travel plans, check the dates for your travel period.

The chapel and church

The Chapel of St Florian (Kaplička sv. Floriána) is the oldest building in Moravský Žižkov, dating from 1852. Its entrance is decorated with Slovácko ornaments. Construction of the Church of Our Lady of Victory (Kostel Panny Marie Vítězné) began in 2000; it was consecrated on August 17, 2002. The church has a freestanding tower topped with a cross and a bell installation for three bells. There are 150 years between 1852 and 2002, so the chapel and church mark two clearly distinct points in the local architectural history. The types of details also distinguish the two buildings: Slovácko ornaments define the chapel’s entrance, while the tower and bell installation stand out at the church.

Wine route and landscape

The Žižkovská Wine Trail is a circular route about two kilometers long, passing through vineyards and by wine cellars and the municipality’s main sights. Check the trail conditions locally before setting out. The route leads to a hill among the vineyards; when visibility is good, you can see a landscape framed by Pálava and the White Carpathians massif. The extensive orchards and vineyards around the Žižkovský Pond are suitable for walks and bike rides. The defined wine trail and the walks or bike rides through the landscape by the pond therefore differ mainly in their focus.

The pond and ecological character

Together with part of the Prušánky watercourse valley above the pond, the Žižkovský Pond forms the local ecological stability system. Valuable plant and animal communities occur in the infiltration area at the end of the floodplain and below the dam of the Žižkovský Pond Biocenter. The landscape by the pond therefore combines walking and cycling with an ecological setting shaped by the watercourse, pond, and habitats.
