Velké Hostěrádky brings together several distinct areas to explore: the wooded Hradisko hill is home to the history of a former medieval fortress, while at Skřípov, archaeological traces meet a distinctive valley landscape. The Pestrá krajina nature trail adds a clearly specified route to these themes; a regional cycling route corridor and a bus line offer further reference points for planning your trip. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can consider in advance whether local history, landscape and protected nature, or a combination of these highlights, will shape your trip.
Cultural History from the Bronze Age to the Middle Ages
The wooded Hradisko hill is associated with the former medieval fortress of Velké Hostěrádky. According to oral tradition, two princesses of Dirtenstein had a church built on the site of the castle, now called Hradisko. The church in Velké Hostěrádky is dedicated to Saints Roch, Sebastian and Rosalia. The building of the post inn, No. 74, is also a listed immovable cultural monument in the village.
At the end of the Skřípov valley, north of Velké Hostěrádky, lies the archaeological site of Skřípov, dating from the Middle Bronze Age. The historical themes therefore also differ in their time periods: the site points to the Bronze Age, Hradisko to a medieval fortress, and the account of the church’s construction has been passed down orally.
Landscape and Protected Nature
Skřípov is also a landscape area: it encompasses a valley with a pond, terraces and prominent slopes above the settlement. Another natural feature is the Svatá a Prostřední vrch Natura 2000 site, which extends into the northern part of the cadastral area of Velké Hostěrádky. It is a habitat for protected plants and animals, including the Hungarian jewel beetle and selected protected large mammals. Two aspects of nature therefore come together here: the contours of the valley and the habitat of protected species.
Nature Trail, Cycling Route Corridor and Getting There
A 2025 report describes the Pestrá krajina nature trail in Velké Hostěrádky as well established: it is seven kilometres long, has six information panels and is lined with fruit trees. The report also mentions that it is listed in mapping apps and used for excursions by schools, families and tourists. Its length and panels give the trail a clearly defined format; details of how it is used describe another aspect.
A major regional cycling route corridor also runs through the cadastral area of Velké Hostěrádky. The nature trail and cycling route corridor represent different scales: one is described as an individual route with a specified length and number of panels, while the other is defined by its regional importance and its course through the cadastral area.
For bus planning, the regional route overview from August 2026 lists line 541 as connecting Hustopeče, Boleradice, Klobouky u Brna and Velké Hostěrádky. Check the current timetable before travelling. The bus line and cycling route corridor offer different transport options: a named bus connection and a regional cycling route.
