Pohnánec brings together landscapes, village history and local traditions. Polánka Nature Park stretches east of the village, while Homole rises above it. To the south lies the site of the vanished Polánka fortress. Walking and cycling trails, the chapel in the village square and a light-hearted pond-crossing contest add further highlights. You can shape your stay around the scenery, outdoor activities or history.
Landscape around Pohnánec
Polánka Nature Park lies east of Pohnánec and covers 15.6 km². The village is located west of the park. Homole rises to 668 metres above the village. The park to the east and the hill above the village thus provide two distinct landmarks in the landscape.
From Homole, the expansive view stretches across the landscape to the Bohemian Forest. The meadows below the summit are also considered a viewpoint, especially for views to the west. To get a sense of the outlook, you can distinguish between the distant view from Homole and the west-facing views from the meadows.
The landscape around Pohnánec invites you to go for a walk. Marked trails also provide clear guidance for hikes: a red-marked hiking trail passes through the village, and three marked hiking trails meet at the Pod Homolí trail junction below Homole. Check the trail markings on site before setting out.
Village history and local traditions
The restored Chapel of the Holy Family stands in the village square. It is a local landmark alongside the scenic destinations and the history of Polánka fortress. The site of the vanished fortress is less than one kilometre south of Pohnánec. The first owners were Přibík and Vilém of Polánka in 1382. The year and the two names give the village’s history a specific medieval connection.
A more recent local tradition is the “Pohnánecká lávka.” This light-hearted pond-crossing contest has been part of the village since 2009. Pohnánec thus brings together different points in time: the inherited history of the fortress and a tradition that began in 2009. If you would like to see the contest during your trip, check the dates in advance.
Trails, getting there and practical information
For hikes, the red-marked trail through Pohnánec and the Pod Homolí junction are two clear landmarks. The “Vítězství u Mladé Vožice” cycling route also passes through the village. Check the latest route information before setting off so you can plan according to the current details.
Pohnánec is connected by bus to Tábor via Chýnov. If you plan to arrive or depart by bus, check the timetable for your travel date. There is also a natural swimming pool in the village. Before planning a visit, check whether it is accessible. These details help you plan activities and transport, without requiring you to combine the landscape, village history and trails into a fixed itinerary.
