Drhovice can be understood through its townscape, history and a recommended cycling route. The Pilský potok flows through the village; the historic layout includes a spacious public centre resembling a village square. A recommended cycling route leads from the direction of Padařov through Drhovice and onward towards Oltyně. If you are looking for a holiday rental in Drhovice, you can first choose your base according to the purpose of your trip: is it mainly about village history and the townscape, or about a planned cycling tour? The following distinctions can help you plan these priorities realistically.

Landscape and Townscape

Together, the Mlýnský rybník and the Pilský potok are considered the most significant bodies of water in the landscape around Drhovice. The stream and pond provide two specific reference points in the landscape, while the village-square-like centre is a feature of the historic layout. The regional biocorridor RBK 315 Velká hora–Příběnice is also designated at the southwestern edge of the Drhovice area. Its location provides another point of reference. If you are planning a detailed hike, check the corridor boundaries against current maps.

History of Drhovice

Drhovice is one of the older Czech settlements. The name Drhovice is believed to probably derive from the founder Druh or his retinue. The name of the local lord, Volkmar of Druhovice, appears in written records in 1219. The possible origin of the place name and the recorded name of the lord are two distinct historical clues.

The history of ownership also has several points of reference. Part of the historic settlement belonged to the property of the monastery in Louňovice. Another part belonged to the Lords of Rožmberk and was associated with Příběničky Castle. Probably around 1459, the village of Malé Drhovice, also known as Drhovičky, developed from a farmstead. Taken together, these details do not describe a single event, but rather different aspects of the village’s history: the origin of its name, ownership ties and the founding of a village.

Chapel and Visit Planning

The Jména Panny Marie Chapel stands on the left side of the road from Drhovice to Padařov. A description from 2021 notes that it is occasionally accessible; this may change. Check access before your visit. Its location by the road and its occasional accessibility are separate planning considerations: the first helps you find your way, while the second matters for a specific visit.

A Marian pilgrimage Mass was held at the Jména Panny Marie Chapel on 8 September 2024 and 14 September 2025. If you would like to plan a future trip around a Mass, check the date for your travel year.

Cycling Route and Navigation

When cycling, it is important to distinguish between a recommended route and a marked route. A recommended cycling route passes through Drhovice from the direction of Padařov towards Oltyně; at the same time, no marked cycle path runs through the area. The first detail describes the recommended route, while the second refers to the status of a marked path. Check current conditions and signage before setting out, as both may change. This allows you to plan your ride around the two named directional points while also taking local signage into account.
