In Tučapy, architectural and local history, Jewish heritage, and a cycling route offer distinct themes for a trip. If you are looking for accommodation, you can first decide whether historic sites or a cycling trip will shape your stay. The castle, churches, and other places of remembrance offer specific points of interest for these themes.
Castle, Church, and Local History
Three small towers with circular ground plans stand out at Tučapy Castle. The Church of St. James the Greater contains historic tombstones of the Dvořecký, Obytecký, and Bloewenstein families. Members of these families were former owners of the fortress. The church was consecrated in 1352 and burned down in 1719. The castle’s architectural distinction and the surviving records associated with the church thus offer different perspectives on the town’s history.
The Chapel of St. Wenceslas stands opposite House No. 6, near the gas station. A statue of St. John of Nepomuk stands in the village square by the bus stop. It bears the coats of arms of the Malovec and Obytecký families and dates from the late 18th century. A cross by the church marks the site of the former old cemetery. The brewery is also part of the town’s history: it was built in 1804 by Prosper Berchtold of Uherčice. The distinct locations and historical associations help visitors distinguish between these places and their stories.
Jewish Heritage in Tučapy
The Jewish cemetery in Tučapy was probably established around 1713 on the southern bank of the Černovický potok, at the western end of the southern Jewish quarter. The synagogue was built in 1779 in the northern Jewish quarter and rebuilt after a fire in 1867. The cemetery was probably established decades before the synagogue was built.
The former synagogue’s northwestern façade and entrance portal remain; the portal is now bricked up.
Rybník Pokoj Pond on the Eastern Edge of Town
The Rybník Pokoj pond lies on the eastern edge of Tučapy. It has a safety spillway and an outlet stream. The pond is a valuable landscape feature for the municipality and adds a connection to the local landscape to the town’s historical themes. This means that trip planning can take in buildings and places of remembrance alongside a distinct landscape feature.
Planning a Cultural or Cycling Trip to Tučapy
Tučapy lies on the 425 km Greenway Praha–Vídeň cycling route. The 425-kilometer route provides a framework for planning a cycling trip. If you are planning a ride, check the current signage and route before setting off. This allows you to consider the cycling route as a distinct focus without tying the town’s history to a fixed sightseeing itinerary.
