Dolní Novosedly lies in the northern foothills of the Písecké hory and is a good starting point for hikes and bike rides through this landscape. Trails also pass through the village. Nature experiences therefore sit alongside local architectural and commemorative heritage, rather than a single excursion program defining your stay. When planning your trip, you can focus on the yellow-marked hiking trail, cycle route 2, the village’s historical details or individual recreational activities.

Hiking and cycling

The marked yellow hiking trail passes through Dolní Novosedly; the village is also a good starting point for hikes and bike rides in the Písecké hory. Part of the Písecké hory is protected as a nature park. If you mainly want to explore on foot, you can enjoy both a marked route through the village and the surrounding landscape as a hiking destination.

For cyclists, cycle route 2 provides a specific point of reference: on its return to Písek, it passes through Dolní Novosedly. The entire route is 34 kilometers long, of moderate difficulty, and suitable for mountain bikes and trekking bikes. The distance refers to the entire cycle route, not just the section through Dolní Novosedly. This lets you consider the distance, difficulty level and suitable bike type together. Compared with hiking, this cycling option also specifies the route length and suitable types of bike.

Bus services run to Písek and Záhoří. Check the timetables before traveling if you plan to use one of these services.

Village green, architectural heritage and memorial crosses

There is a chapel on the village green. On its northeastern side, farmstead No. 1 occupies a prominent position. It is a detached rural complex of single-story buildings arranged in a horseshoe shape around an irregular courtyard. The arrangement around the courtyard is as characteristic as the single-story construction. House No. 1 is a building in the typical South Bohemian folk Baroque style, dating from 1800.

In the center of Dolní Novosedly, the former Kolářík inn stands beside the road. It is decorated with murals inside and out. It is currently used for recreational purposes and is not open to the public.

There are eight memorial crosses of different designs in the village; most date from the 19th century. Some were probably used to mark road intersections. Together, the buildings and crosses offer various points of connection for exploring the village’s architecture and commemorative heritage.

Recreational activities and getting around

Recreational fishing is available at Podhorák pond in Dolní Novosedly. Alongside the trails, this offers an activity by the water, at a specific pond.

The Provazce sports and hunting shooting range is located at Dolní Novosedly 53 and has separate shotgun and rifle ranges. The complex can be rented for private events. If you plan to include this option in your itinerary, confirm operating conditions and rental availability directly with the operator.
