Jestrebice combines a protected chapel in the town centre with cycling routes that run through the town and the Milevsko region. It also has historical connections dating from the 13th century to the rural landscape of the 18th century. When looking for a holiday apartment in Jestrebice, it helps to decide what you want to focus on: should your stay be devoted more to architectural and local history, or to cycling?

Chapel and Local History

The central area of Jestrebice is home to a small park and the Chapel of the Holy Trinity. The chapel is protected as a cultural monument under registration number 25189/3-2538. The park and chapel represent two distinct points of interest in the town centre: a small green space and a protected building.

The chapel has a large hexagonal nave and a smaller rectangular presbytery with a three-sided end. The nave is the main space, while the presbytery is the chancel. This means the chapel can be understood not only through its dedication, but also through its clearly articulated architectural form. For travellers interested in religious architecture, the combination of its floor plan and proportions offers a tangible point of interest.

In the 13th century, Jestrebice belonged to the estate of the Archbishop of Prague in Týn. The town is first mentioned in 1379. After the Battle of White Mountain, Jestrebice belonged to the Premonstratensian order’s estate in Milevsko. These milestones trace the town’s history from archiepiscopal ownership through its first mention to its time as an order’s estate.

Another perspective on the past comes from agriculture: in the mid-18th century, Jestrebice had 13 larger farmsteads, and 158 hectares of arable land were cultivated. The number of farmsteads and the area of land place two measures of the rural landscape side by side: agricultural holdings and cultivated fields. This adds an economic perspective on the town to its history of ownership.

Cycling and Other Local Points of Interest

A local cycling route passes through Jestrebice and connects to the west with regional KÄŚT cycle route No. 31 to VeselĂÄŤko. The cycling loop through the Milevsko region runs along paved roads and surfaced forest tracks and is suitable for trekking bikes and mountain bikes. This offers different considerations when choosing a route: the western connection towards VeselĂÄŤko, and the surface and suitable bike types for the regional loop.

Kupa u Jestřebic is 503 metres above sea level. The Rozhledna Na Kupě lookout tower near Jestrebice can be reached by car, but is currently out of service.

Southeast of Jestrebice, larger sports and recreation areas lie beside a body of water. Residents use the water for various social events. These community uses of the waterfront complement the town’s historical connections and cycling opportunities.
