In Božetice, ten stone arches, a fresco discovered during restoration, and the first mention of a mill dating from the first half of the 16th century lead to different chapters in the town’s history. There is also a museum of milling, baking and agriculture, a chapel with an image of the Holy Trinity, and routes for cycling and hiking. Visitors who want to combine culture and activity on a trip will find several distinct themes here: architectural history, sacred art, historic crafts, and routes through the town.
Milling, Baking and Agriculture
The Muzeum Božetice is a museum of milling, baking and agriculture. A mill in Božetice is first mentioned in the first half of the 16th century; the first mention of baking dates back to the 19th century. These are two distinct historical milestones within the museum’s broad subject matter: the early mention of milling and the later connection with baking. For travelers interested in rural crafts, this theme offers a distinct way to explore the town’s history, alongside its sacred and architectural heritage.
Bridge and Chapels
The railway bridge is a massive stone structure with ten arches, built in 1889. As a cultural monument, it lies within the cadastral areas of Sepekov and Božetice, south of the Kvěchov mill. The two cadastral names and the mill as a reference point help locate it; the ten arches and construction date, meanwhile, describe its form and origins.
West of Božetice, a niche chapel stands in the fields. It was probably built around 1760 by the Zurka family. During its most recent restoration, carried out in 2010, an original fresco was discovered. This reveals two distinct periods: the chapel’s probable construction and the restoration during which the fresco came to light.
The Chapel of the Holy Trinity contains an image of the Holy Trinity, probably painted in 1845 by Mr. Skala from Písek. Here, the painting’s tentative date is the specific artistic connection; in the niche chapel, by contrast, the focus is on the discovery of the fresco during restoration. Together, the two chapels showcase different traces of sacred art and its history.
Local Features and Routes
The Smutná stream flows through Božetice. The memorial tree “Božetická lípa” stands in the northeastern built-up part of the town. These are two distinct local features: a watercourse that runs through Božetice and a single named tree with a more precise location within the built-up area.
Two different routes through Božetice offer ways to enjoy the outdoors. Cycling Route No. 1153 runs from Chyšky to Staré Sedlo. A yellow-marked hiking trail runs from Malšice via Stádlec, Sepekov, Vlksice, Nadějkov and Sedlec-Prčice to Heřmaničky, passing through the town. The cycling route can be identified by its number and endpoints, while the hiking trail is described by its markings and sequence of towns. These different reference points can help you choose the route that best suits your plans. Check the current route before setting out on a specific trip.
The town also has an outdoor swimming pool. If you plan to visit the museum or the pool, check their opening hours in advance.
