A Baroque pilgrimage church, preserved folk architecture, and the pond and wetland landscape of the Česká Kanada Nature Park give a trip to Clunek several different points of interest. There is also a signposted cycling route through the area and an opportunity to swim at Klikovský Pond. When planning your stay, you can therefore start by deciding whether culture, nature or activity should shape your visit.

Ponds and protected landscape

Clunek is part of the Česká Kanada Nature Park. Forests and ponds shape the landscape around it. The Krvavý and Kačležský Ponds National Nature Monument is also located in the nature park near Clunek. Its core consists of the two ponds, Krvavý, covering 127 ha, and Kačležský, covering 176 ha; Kačležský is therefore the larger of the two.

The protected area includes more than just the ponds: extensive stands of reeds along the shores and adjoining wet and peat meadows also shape the landscape. Natural wet forests and transitional mires are protected as well. The focus is therefore on a range of wetland habitats alongside the bodies of water.

Specific rules apply when visiting the nature monument: no fires may be lit without the consent of the nature conservation authority. Breeding birds in the shore vegetation must not be disturbed. Also follow the current signs on site.

Pilgrimage church and folk architecture

The Church of Saint John of Nepomuk is a Baroque pilgrimage church. It dates from 1787 and was built on the site of a Chapel of the Fourteen Holy Helpers erected in 1705. The two dates therefore refer to different building phases: 1705 to the earlier chapel and 1787 to the church. The church stands on the crest of a small hill; from the west, access is across an open area.

Folk architecture is also part of Clunek’s local character. House No. 42 is a building from the first half of the 19th century. Other valuable preserved buildings include farmsteads Nos. 61 and 62; Peasant Baroque dating from 1823 is associated with them. The chapel in Lomy is a local historic cultural monument of the municipality. The range thus extends from sacred architectural history to rural folk architecture.

Cycling route and swimming opportunity

A signposted cycling route passes through the area around Clunek. It continues via Kaproun to Zvůle. This provides cyclists with a named route to follow; check current route conditions before setting off.

Another activity is swimming at Klikovský Pond. Check swimming conditions and access on site. The two options can therefore be planned separately: the cycling route follows a designated course via Kaproun to Zvůle, while the swimming opportunity is at Klikovský Pond.

The Česká Kanada Nature Park is also home to a historic narrow-gauge railway. It adds another historical connection to the region alongside its local buildings and protected landscape.
