Novosedly nad Nežárkou lies on a ridge. From there, views extend across the Nežárka Valley and the wooded areas above Jemčina. These vistas give the place a distinct landscape profile: the valley and forest are just as much a part of it as its elevated location. If you give greater weight to scenery than to individual buildings when choosing a destination, this combination offers a concrete point of reference.

The Ridge and the Landscape

The KP04 Kolence–Novosedly landscape unit consists of gently rolling agricultural land bordered by belts of forest. This adds two more features to the view from the ridge: farmland and the surrounding forest belts. The ridge defines the location of Novosedly nad Nežárkou; the landscape unit describes the character of the wider area. This makes it possible to distinguish the village’s location from the landscape’s form while considering them together.

The Church and Former Forge

The Church of Saint Wenceslas and the forge on the village green make different impressions on the village landscape. The church stands on the edge of Novosedly nad Nežárkou and dates from 1867. The former forge is on the village green; it is a historic, listed building from the 19th century.

The two buildings also differ in their historical significance: the church represents sacred architecture, while the former forge represents craftsmanship. Both date from the 19th century, although the church has a specific construction year: 1867. If you are choosing cultural attractions with a particular focus, these offer two distinct points of interest: a church building and a listed former craft workshop.

Čertova Šlápota in the Landscape

Čertova Šlápota is a named rock outcrop in the KP04 Kolence–Novosedly landscape unit. The large granite block lies in the forest south of Kolence, on the path to the Smitka forester’s lodge at Rožmberský rybník. This individual natural feature complements the broader description of the landscape unit, without being equated with the buildings in the village.

Carved into the granite are the silhouette of a devil carrying a boulder above his head, as well as the years 1247 and 1896. Unlike the church and forge, Čertova Šlápota is not a building, but a rock with a carved image. The combination of the granite block and the image makes it a cultural point of interest in its own right within the landscape. The dates serve different purposes: 1867 is the church’s construction year, the forge dates from the 19th century, and 1247 and 1896 appear as years carved into the rock. When comparing the three features, the construction year, the century reference, and the inscription are therefore separate chronological details.
