Rapšach can be explored from two perspectives: St. Zikmund Church tells the story of several building phases, while the virtual history trail Obec postižená historií (A Village Shaped by History) turns history into a series of tasks. Natural attractions include the former Pískovna u Dračice gravel-sand pit and the Dračice area with its river valley. Each topic has a different focus: architectural history, a route that can be divided into several sections, and habitats with a particular connection to species conservation.

St. Zikmund Church: architectural history and heritage protection

St. Zikmund Church was built around 1450; during renovations in 1890, it was given a Neo-Gothic tower. Two building phases are therefore clearly distinguishable: the older church building and the later addition of the tower, which was built more than four centuries after the church. The entire church building is listed as a protected monument, not just the tower. For architecture enthusiasts, this offers a tangible perspective on the time between the original construction and the Neo-Gothic alteration.

History trail divided into several sections

Obec postižená historií (A Village Shaped by History) is a virtual history trail in Rapšach. It is not marked out in the landscape and can be completed using the accompanying brochure. The trail is approximately 10 km long and can be divided into several sections. This distance should therefore be understood as the approximate total length, not as the length of a single stage. Most stops feature questions or tasks, particularly for children. This gives the trail an active, educational format alongside its historical focus. If you enjoy exploring historical topics through questions, the trail offers a different way to engage with the past than viewing a single building.

Cycling route through Rapšach

Cycle Route No. 3, “Vitorazská jízda 2018,” passes through Rapšach and forms part of a regional circular route connecting České Velenice, Klikov and the Halámky border crossing. Unlike the virtual history trail, it is a cycling connection between several named places. If you are planning a ride, check the route conditions before setting off. The route places Rapšach within a regional cycling loop and complements its local historical attractions with a wider regional perspective.

Natural attractions: Pískovna u Dračice and Dračice

The Pískovna u Dračice Natural Monument lies within the cadastral area of Rapšach, in a former gravel-sand pit. It is home to a regularly reproducing population of the endangered European green toad. Its former use and the specific conservation focus give the natural monument two distinct aspects: a former extraction site and a habitat for a threatened species. The area is accessible to pedestrians and cyclists via public paths.

The Dračice area, by contrast, is defined by its river valley: it is deeply meandering and gorge-like, with boulders shaping the riverbed. It also features a river ecosystem and the associated habitats of protected plants and animals. The natural attractions therefore differ in their focus: at Pískovna, the former gravel-sand pit and the European green toad are specifically identified, while at Dračice the focus is on the valley’s structure and ecological network.
