Branischen can be explored through three specific themes: Branišovský les, with its paths and play facilities; two chapels with different historical connections; and Cycle Route 1100. When planning your trip, you can decide whether a stay in the forest, the history of the village and its buildings, or a cycling tour should be your main focus.
Forest paths, play facilities and places to rest
Branišovský les is a recreational forest open to visitors. Its network of paths covers a total of 1,734 metres. There are three children’s playgrounds in the forest. A forest educational trail features a playground, various obstacles, climbing elements and other play features. Rest facilities for visitors and information boards are also available. The different facilities suit different interests for the day: the paths are for walking, the educational trail offers playful activities, and the rest facilities provide a place to take a break; the boards add information on site to your visit. If you plan to use the play features during an upcoming visit, check their condition in advance.
Two chapels, different historical connections
The two chapels have different historical associations. U Lesa was built in 1915 in memory of the late Josef Graman, at the expense of his wife Kateřina. Its dedication links the year of construction, the person and the occasion for the memorial, establishing a specific historical connection. Nejsvětější Trojice was built in 1856 in the eclectic style and is a protected example of small-scale sacred architecture of the 19th century, typical of South Bohemia.
Eclectic architecture draws on elements from different styles. The term describes the style; the designation as small-scale sacred architecture refers to its scale. Nejsvětější Trojice therefore offers an architectural perspective that differs from the commemorative dedication of the U Lesa chapel. The years of construction also mark two different points in time: Nejsvětější Trojice dates from 1856, and U Lesa from 1915. The former stands in the northwestern part of Branischen, right beside the road between České Budějovice and Dubné.
Cycle Route 1100 and a regional tour
Cycle Route 1100 passes through Branischen and connects České Budějovice with Dubné. An official regional cycling tour follows it through Branišovský les to Branischen and onwards to Křenovice. This gives you two distinct points of reference for planning: Route 1100 describes the connection between the two towns, while the regional tour also specifies the route through the forest and the continuation to Křenovice. If cycling is your main focus, you can follow either the connection between the towns or the longer tour.
The locations are also useful for finding your way around, but they are different: Nejsvětější Trojice stands right beside the road between České Budějovice and Dubné; Cycle Route 1100 passes through Branischen between these towns. This makes it possible to pinpoint both the chapel’s location and the cycle route’s course.
