Veselka brings together several distinct reasons to visit: a 7.5-kilometre educational trail, technical traces at Kolínův mlýn, a fortification structure, and a public offering of old and regional seed varieties. This makes it easier to choose your focus: you can centre your visit on outdoor activities, the history of technology and fortifications, or cultivation and varietal diversity. Search for a holiday rental in Veselka, then plan your activities according to their respective conditions.
Bus stop and educational trail
In the IDS JK stop directory dated 14 December 2025, the stop “Trhové Sviny Veselka” is listed as entry 125. Check the current timetable for your journey. Use the full stop name when searching for connections so you can find the correct entry.
The “Totalita rozděluje – demokracie spojuje” educational trail is 7.5 kilometres long and runs via a side route to Veselka. It is primarily intended for pedestrians; cyclists can also use it, but cannot take the turn-off to Stop No. 5. The restriction applies to this turn-off, not to cycling on the educational trail in general. The length makes it easy to plan the trail as a separate activity. A route description from 2011 leads from the Museum of Czechoslovak Fortifications via a green-marked route to the educational trail. Check the markings on site if you want to follow this route.
Mill and fortification
Kolínův mlýn in Veselka has a preserved Francis turbine made by J. C. Bernard, Karlínská továrna na stroje, Prague. For those interested in technology, the combination of the mill’s name, the turbine type and its manufacturer offers a specific point of interest: the focus is on a preserved machine component and its technical identification, not just on the mill as a building.
Preserved fortification structure No. 33, of type A-140Z, is the only surviving structure in this section of the fortification line. An older municipal description states that the structure houses a Museum of Czechoslovak Fortifications. Check the current opening hours before visiting.
The technical and military-historical aspects offer two different perspectives: at the mill, the focus is on the turbine type and manufacturer; at the fortification structure, on its number, type designation and special standing within the section. This lets you choose according to whether you are more interested in mill technology or fortification construction.
Seeds and local interests
At Gengel z. ú.’s location at Veselka 52, 770 old and regional varieties are offered to the public for cultivation and seed propagation. The range and individual varieties may change. If you are looking for a particular variety to grow, check current availability in advance. This adds a distinct focus on varieties and seeds to the subjects of buildings and walking routes.
