Vysoký Hrádek represents several building phases and a historical public role as the information centre of the Temelín Nuclear Power Plant. The rural farmstead at Temelín 13 offers a different focus: its architecture is shaped by the village square, residential buildings and a detached granary. ReakTour adds a virtual view of secure areas. Together, the three subjects offer different perspectives: architectural development, rural farmstead architecture and communicating technology.

Vysoký Hrádek: Building History and Technology

Vysoký Hrádek began as a manor farm built by the Lords of Březí. The complex was later developed into a fortress; during the rule of Václav Malovec, it was converted into a small château. After extensive structural reconstruction, Vysoký Hrádek once again served the public as the information centre of the Temelín Nuclear Power Plant from October 1997. The transition from fortress to small château and its later role as an information centre mark distinct chapters in the complex’s history.

A ČEZ announcement dated 6 February 2026 describes the ReakTour virtual tour. Using virtual-reality headsets, it offers insights into secure areas of the Temelín Nuclear Power Plant, including the reactor, cooling tower and control room. The tour complements the building history with a technical perspective conveyed through virtual views.

Temelín 13: A Rural Farmstead

The rural farmstead at Temelín 13 lies on the south side of the long village square. The residential building and granary face the square and stand opposite each other. Between them runs a stucco-decorated perimeter wall with a gate and wicket gate; the granary is detached. To understand the architecture, it is worth looking at how the parts relate: the house, granary and wall form an ensemble oriented towards the square. Two scales come into focus: the design of individual features, such as the stucco on the wall, and the overall arrangement of the buildings. This makes the spatial layout of the farmstead a subject of interest alongside its architectural form.

Getting There and Routes

Road 105 from Hluboká nad Vltavou leads to the Vysoký Hrádek Visitor Centre; the route is 16.7 km long. Free parking is available right at the visitor centre. The visitor centre can also be reached by bus via the “Březí u Týna, JE” stop. Bus timetables and transport information may change; check the latest details before setting off.

A cycle route to the Temelín Nuclear Power Plant leads from Purkarec via cycle routes CT 1091 and CT 1095, continuing through Býšov to the facility. This route takes a different course: the bus and road information refers to the Vysoký Hrádek Visitor Centre, while the cycle route leads to the Temelín Nuclear Power Plant. Before setting off, check local route conditions, which may change independently of the route itself.

This makes it possible to distinguish the visitor-centre information from the cycle connection to the Temelín Nuclear Power Plant and match each to your planned route.
