Obora can be explored through its specific trails and historical sites: the educational Branka cycle route passes through the village, and a blue-marked hiking route leads from Obora to the stone Oborská hájovna. Also nearby are preserved sunken-track traces of the Zlatá cesta and the history of Pavlova Huť in the surrounding region. The entire municipal area lies within the Český les Protected Landscape Area.

The Branka Cycle Route

The educational Branka cycle route is a 17-kilometre circular route with eleven stops and passes through Obora. It is suitable for hikers, cyclists, and cross-country skiers. The eleventh stop is at the entrance to Obora. Compared with the blue-marked route to the Oborská hájovna, Branka differs primarily in its layout: it is a circular route with stops, while the hiking route leads to a specific, named historical destination.

The Oborská hájovna and Old Routes

The stone Oborská hájovna in the valley of the Sklářský potok was already standing around 1650 and belonged to a game reserve established by Jan Filip Husmann. A blue-marked hiking route leads to it from Obora. For travellers interested in cultural heritage, the destination combines a marked route with a specific story about the landscape: the game reserve established by Husmann.

A particularly extensive cluster of preserved sunken-track traces of the Zlatá cesta leads from the isolated settlement of Hruškovna near Zadní Milíře down into the valley to the Oborská hájovna. Sunken tracks are old routes preserved as depressions in the terrain; these traces draw attention to the course of the route, rather than just to a single destination. There is also a medieval road near Obora u Tachova, dating from the 12th to the 16th century. The two route-related features provide different information: for the Zlatá cesta, the course and its reference points are central; for the road, the focus is its medieval period, from the 12th to the 16th century.

Pavlova Huť and Regional History

In the region around Obora, near Pavlova Huť, the Chapel of St. Anne was rebuilt in 2017 on the foundations of a chapel erected in 1935. The settlement of Pavlova Huť stood on the Sklářský potok; the glassworks that gave it its name were founded around 1743 by Baltazar and Michael Fuchs. The chronology brings together two eras: the founding of the glassworks in the 18th century and the chapel’s history, with its predecessor built in 1935 and its reconstruction in 2017. Both subjects are part of Pavlova Huť’s cultural heritage, but represent different historical developments.

The Landscape Setting

The entire municipal area of Obora lies within the Český les Protected Landscape Area. This protected-area designation therefore applies not just to a single point, but to the whole village, adding a clear landscape context to its trails and historical sites. When choosing where to visit, you can consider not only individual destinations but also the landscape setting of the entire municipal area.
