The elongated village green with its pond defines Vejvanov’s traditional layout. The village also has preserved log farmsteads and an educational trail leading from Chomle to Vejvanov. The first written mention of the village dates back to 1379. This gives you several perspectives to consider when planning your trip: the village’s layout, its rural architecture, its history and a walking route with specific details.

Village Green and Log Farmsteads

The village green and pond are more than individual attractions; they also reflect the original concentration of buildings in the village. The spatial layout of the village and a closer look at individual farmsteads therefore offer different perspectives on its architectural history. Eight log farmsteads have been preserved in Vejvanov. Some of the log farmhouses are immovable cultural monuments. The number of preserved farmsteads and the protected status of the houses thus highlight different aspects: protection applies to some of the log farmhouses, not to the entire group as a whole.

One specific example is rural farmstead No. 14. It is a protected cultural monument and has been listed since 3 May 1958. It includes a log-built residential house with a three-bay façade. “Three-bay” describes the façade’s division into three bays and draws attention to the structure of the house. A log-built barn stands at the rear of the farmstead. The residential house and barn are therefore two clearly identified parts of the same farmstead, both featuring log construction.

Mining History and Landscape

Hard coal was mined beneath Vejvanov and in its surroundings for centuries. This long period offers a distinct perspective on the village’s history, alongside its preserved settlement pattern and architectural form. As for the landscape, part of Vejvanov’s municipal area extends into Radeč Nature Park.

A distinctive feature of the landscape is the continuously forested watershed ridge formed by Babská skála and Hadí vrch. Babská skála is 564 metres high, while Hadí vrch reaches 545 metres. The two elevations differ by 19 metres, providing a specific comparison between the two peaks. Vejvanov thus brings together traces of historical human activity and a clearly defined landscape, without implying a particular route between the places described.

The Educational Trail from Chomle to Vejvanov

The educational trail “Za permoníky Chomle a Vejvanova” leads from Chomle to Vejvanov. It is 4.5 kilometres long and has nine stops. The route length and the number of stops convey different aspects of its scope: one describes the length of the trail, while the other gives the number of stops. This makes the educational trail a clearly identified walking option alongside the village’s layout and architecture.

When planning a trip, you can consider Vejvanov from different perspectives: the village green and log farmsteads focus your stay on rural architectural history, while the connection to the nature park and the forested watershed ridge draw attention to the landscape. The educational trail, in turn, is a clearly quantified way to include a walk in your plans. If you are looking for a holiday rental in Vejvanov, this distinction can help you decide what you would like to focus on during your stay.
