Postřekov offers a range of points of interest for those interested in cultural history and nature. Topics range from Chod folk costumes and a fire service collection to protected ponds, vascular plants and rock formations. When planning your visit, it helps to distinguish between the exhibitions, the wetland and the Skalky na Sádku natural monument.

Cultural history from three perspectives

The Muzeum krojů features a permanent exhibition of Chod folk costumes, particularly those of the Upper Chods. It is housed in the old elementary school building in Postřekov. Its focus is clearly defined: the exhibition is dedicated to a specific regional costume group, with particular emphasis on the Upper Chods. For those interested in cultural history, this is a clearly identified topic, distinct from the fire service collection and local history.

The Hasičské muzeum complements this view of cultural history with firefighting equipment. Hand pumps are displayed in the old fire station; motor pumps and firefighting equipment are housed in the school’s former boiler room. The collection includes 24 motor pumps and six hand pumps, three of them horse-drawn, as well as a steam pump and three fire engines. With 24 motor pumps compared with six hand pumps, the motorized group is larger. The three horse-drawn pumps form a distinct group within the hand pumps; the steam pump and vehicles add further types of equipment to the collection.

A third perspective is offered by the Pamětní síň obce. Its permanent exhibition covers the history of Postřekov and has been on display in the municipal office building since 2002. Visits are possible by telephone appointment. Postřekov’s Masopust is the municipality’s largest cultural event. If you would like to plan your trip around it, check the specific event dates in advance.

Ponds, wetland and rocky ridge

About half a kilometre from Postřekov, the Postřekovské rybníky form a protected complex of more than 20 managed ponds. The wetland is home to more than 300 species of vascular plants and provides nesting sites for many bird species. For nature enthusiasts, its particular appeal lies in the combination of managed ponds, a protected wetland and the diversity of species found there. The natural area’s features thus include not only the landscape but also its plants and bird nesting sites.

The Skalky na Sádku natural monument has a different character: it lies in the Český les biogeographical region, in the southern Čerchovský les subregion. A ridge of rugged rocks, several hundred metres long, runs through a mixed forest. A hiking trail follows the western boundary of the natural monument; in winter, it is used as a cross-country ski trail. The two natural areas are therefore quite distinct: the Postřekovské rybníky are defined by ponds, wetland and biodiversity, while Skalky na Sádku is characterized by a rocky ridge, mixed forest and a hiking trail that becomes a ski trail in winter.
