The architectural heritage in Luženičky and the marked paths on Baldovské návrší give your trip two distinct focal points. In the village, farmsteads and a memorial cross take centre stage; on Baldov, there is also a Baroque chapel, the monument to the Hussite victory, a semicircular viewpoint, and options for walking and cycling. This lets you give cultural history and outdoor activities different priorities when planning your trip.
Farmsteads and memorials in Luženičky
Farmstead No. 7 is considered a valuable building. Its features include a gate with a lintel and a multi-storey residential building dating from 1930. The lintel forms the upper part of the gate opening, while the date places the residential building in a specific period. This farmstead therefore draws attention to both a specific architectural feature and a dated building.
Farmstead No. 5 is one of the oldest properties in the municipality. An old wooden dovecote has been preserved there. The two properties have different highlights: at No. 7, the gate and residential building stand out; at No. 5, it is the dovecote and its status as one of the municipality’s oldest farmsteads. For anyone interested in rural architectural history, these are two clearly distinct details.
A memorial cross dating from 1939 stands beside the Chapel of St Anthony. The cross adds a dated memorial to the architectural heritage. The Chapel of St Anthony and the Baroque chapel on Baldovské návrší are two different places with different dedications, which you can keep distinct when planning your visit around a particular theme.
Chapel and history on Baldov
A Baroque, hexagonal chapel dedicated to the Most Holy Trinity and built in the 18th century stands on Baldovské návrší. Its hexagonal shape is a specific architectural feature; its dedication and construction date add to the picture of local architectural history. Together with the farmsteads in Luženičky, it offers a comparison between different architectural forms and periods.
The history of events is also part of Baldovské návrší: in 1431, a clash between the Hussites and the Crusaders took place there. The monument to the Hussite victory is also located on the hill, within the cadastral area of the municipality of Luženičky. The monument and the chapel offer a semicircular view. Architecture, historical remembrance and the landscape vista thus provide three distinct reasons to focus on the sites on Baldov.
Distinguishing walking trails from the cycling loop
The Baldov Sculpture Trail was created in 2013 as part of the Tusta Sculpta sculptors’ symposium. It begins beyond Domažlice, in the direction of Luženičky, and follows a green-marked hiking trail. If you are interested in this trail, its history and the described markings provide two specific points of reference. Check the markings before setting out.
Another option is the Baldov cycling loop: the 15-kilometre route reaches the signpost above Luženičky, where it joins cycle route No. 3 towards Domažlice. It passes through hilly terrain and partly along forest roads. Its length, terrain and surfaces help distinguish this cycling loop from the green-marked walking trail; it is advisable to check the current route before setting off.
The monument to the Hussite victory can be reached from Luženičky via a yellow-marked hiking trail or an access road. Two different access options to the monument are therefore available. Check the route and the relevant markings before your visit. When planning, you can distinguish between the Sculpture Trail, the cycling loop and access to the monument, without combining the named routes into a single route.
