On the village square in Čermná stands the protected Chapel of the Apostles St John and Paul. On Křemel, a wooden lookout tower offers views of the Český les and the Chudenická vrchovina. There is also a 14 km KČT circular hike from Staňkov via the Lacembok castle ruins and Křemel to Čermná. Village history, a viewpoint and a hike are three different reasons to include the town in your travel plans.

Landscape and Townscape

Čermná lies at the foot of Křemele Hill, at an elevation of 430 to 455 metres above sea level. The terrain slopes gently down to the southwest. In the agricultural surroundings, meadows, fields and bodies of water alternate. The settlement’s layout is also shaped by its location: it stretches across gently sloping terrain around a small village square with a chapel. Those interested in the landscape will find not only the elevation here, but also a clearly described connection between the slope, the village square and the agricultural surroundings.

Chapel on the Village Square

The Chapel of the Apostles St John and Paul is a protected cultural monument and is a defining feature of the small village square. Its history includes several distinct stages: the bell tower dates from 1897; in 1909, a wider nave was added to the original chapel. A comprehensive renovation took place in 2001. A nave is the main space of a church building; the extension therefore made the original chapel wider. The dates refer to the tower, the structural extension and the later renovation—not to a single construction date for the entire building.

Lookout Tower and Hike

The wooden lookout tower on Křemel is permanently and freely accessible. From there, views extend across the Český les and the Chudenická vrchovina. There is also a shelter with a table and benches, a swing and other play equipment for children at the lookout tower. Opening conditions may change and facilities may be updated, so check the conditions and state of the facilities before your visit.

Another way to include Křemel in an excursion is the 14 km KČT circular hike from Staňkov. The circular route leads from Staňkov via the Lacembok castle ruins and the Křemel lookout tower to Čermná. If you would rather focus your stay on Čermná, you can make the chapel on the village square and the Křemel lookout tower your main points of interest.

Events and Practical Information

Masopust is one of Čermná’s traditional community events. Dates vary from year to year, so if you want to plan your trip around this event, check the date for the relevant year.

Čermná has a regular bus service. If you plan to travel by bus, check the timetable separately for your travel day. At the edge of the village, by the road from Staňkov, there are a sports field and a children’s playground. Facilities may change; it is advisable to check their condition before visiting. A nearby pond at Čermná is used for swimming and fishing.
