In Kolovec, traditional crafts and local history meet scenic views: the Museum of Technology showcases trades and technical exhibits, the Volf family pottery workshop has been making traditional folk pottery since 1785, and the Plzeň–Regensburg cycle route passes through the village. From the Kolovečská vyhlídka viewpoint, you can see as far as Šumava and Český les.

Technology and Pottery

The Muzeum techniky a řemesel Koloveč showcases 67 complete craft workshops and trades, as well as twelve technical exhibitions. The topics on display include clocks and mechanical musical instruments, prams and toys, electrical appliances, kitchen equipment, animal traps, exhibits on milk processing, and a fire station. The collection thus covers different aspects of crafts, technology, and everyday life.

The Volf family pottery workshop offers another perspective on traditional crafts. It has been making traditional folk pottery in Kolovec since 1785 and is still operating today. The pottery tradition has been passed down there from father to son for seven generations. The many trades presented at the museum are thus complemented by a specific family tradition carried on across generations.

For registered groups of more than ten people, the museum offers a demonstration on the potter’s wheel. If you plan to attend this demonstration, confirm the applicable booking conditions in advance.

Church, Town Hall, and Local History

A major fire destroyed a total of 51 houses, as well as the town hall, school, and church, in 1729. The church was rebuilt in the Baroque style after the fire; reconstruction was completed in 1732. Its church tower is 35 metres high. Inside the church is an original sculpture of the Stations of the Cross, a specific detail alongside the building’s history.

The present-day town hall was rebuilt between 1826 and 1830 after the previous town hall burned down. Today it is used as a library and meeting room for local associations. The Liberation Memorial is also part of the village’s history: it was restored in the centre of the village in 1990, just four metres from its original location. These details provide historical points of reference in the village landscape without conflating the different events into a single phase of construction.

Cycle Route, Views, and Nature

The Plzeň–Regensburg cycle route passes through Kolovec. Along the way, you can visit places of interest in the surrounding area on foot or by bike. The Kolovečská vyhlídka viewpoint offers views of the Šumava and Český les panoramas, including Javor, Ostrý, Čerchov, Haltrava, Zvon, Přimda, and Sedmihoří.

Nearby is Netřeb, surrounded by deciduous woodland with yew trees and rare forest flora, including Turk’s cap lilies. This brings together different landscapes: a cycle route through Kolovec, a viewpoint overlooking the panoramas mentioned above, and the woodland flora near Netřeb.

Events Throughout the Year

The municipality of Kolovec, local associations, the primary school, and the kindergarten organise numerous regular cultural and social events each year. A recurring folk performance is the traditional play “Přemílání bab na mladá děvčata,” which attracts several thousand visitors. If you would like to plan your stay around an event, check the exact date in advance.

When choosing the focus of your trip, the themes are easy to distinguish: the museum and pottery workshop represent crafts and technology, while the church, town hall, and memorial tell different chapters of the village’s history. The cycle route, viewpoint, and flora near Netřeb complement these cultural points of interest with scenic landscapes.
