Svojanov offers several distinct points of interest for a stay: the castle is one of the oldest royal castles in the Czech Republic, while the Church of St. Peter and Paul stands on a hill above the town. Memorials in the square and educational trails on a variety of themes broaden the view of the town’s history and landscape. When planning your time, you can first choose a focus: the castle and its historical associations, the Kavinský Stream, or educational trails with a specified length and their own theme.

Castle, Church and Memorial Sites

Svojanov Castle is one of the oldest royal castles in the Czech Republic. For travelers interested in the history of royal castles, this classification is a particularly distinctive point of interest. The Church of St. Peter and Paul offers a different perspective: it stands on a hill above Svojanov and was completed in 1788. Its location and completion date give the church a specific historical and geographical context. Together, the castle and church point to different aspects of Svojanov’s historical heritage.

Svojanov’s square is home to the “Děti lva” memorial trail. Since 2019, plaques commemorating notable figures from Svojanov have been installed and ceremonially unveiled there. This draws attention not only to buildings, but also to the memory of individuals from the town. Boží muka offers another connection to history: this historic stone monument stands above the settlement of Korýtka, on the route to Svojanov Castle over Mount Pupek. The monument’s location is therefore also part of a named route to the castle.

Educational Trails Between the Stream and the Castle

The “Naučná stezka údolím Kavinského potoka” educational trail runs alongside cascades on the Kavinský Stream through a protected area. Travertine formations and small waterfalls line the route; the trail is 2.5 km long. Here, the landscape and the trail’s theme go hand in hand: the stream, cascades and travertine formations characterize the route described. The trail offers a clear focus for anyone choosing an educational trail primarily for its waterside scenery.

The “Kolem Svojanova” educational trail is 6.5 km long and starts at the town hall. Compared with the 2.5 km educational trail in the Kavinský Stream valley, it is four kilometers longer. The two routes are therefore easy to distinguish by length; they also differ in their respective themes. If you are looking for the shorter of the two routes with a specified distance, consider the trail along the Kavinský Stream. “Kolem Svojanova,” by contrast, offers the longer option, with a stated starting point at the town hall.

The “Masarykova cesta na hrad” takes a different approach. This educational trail follows the route T. G. Masaryk rode on horseback to Svojanov Castle, and offers views of the castle and the valley around the village. The route thus combines a historical connection with specific viewpoints. When choosing, you can decide based on the focus you prefer: the scenery along the Kavinský Stream, the longer “Kolem Svojanova” route, or the trail associated with Masaryk, with views of the castle and valley.
