Koruna lies on a hill; in fine weather, the view extends across a valley, wooded hills and surrounding villages. The Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is a village landmark, while the history of the former Koruna Panny Marie Monastery reaches into the surrounding area. This brings together landscapes, outdoor activities and village history as distinct areas of interest when planning a trip.
Enjoy the Outdoors
A cycling route passes through Koruna. The route includes the village itself in a bike ride; the surrounding forests, on the other hand, offer opportunities for walks, relaxation and mushroom picking. This is a practical distinction when choosing an outdoor activity: cycling takes you through Koruna, while the forest activities take place in the surrounding area. If you want to include both in your stay, you can plan a ride through the village and time on foot in the forests as separate activities. In winter, Koruna gets enough snow for cross-country skiing. This seasonal option complements the cycling route and forest and may influence when you choose to travel.
A covered seating area for tourists was built on the hill towards SlovĂĄckĂ© ĂșdolĂ in 2023.
Getting Around by Bus
Koruna has two bus stops, served by buses several times a day. Buses run from Koruna to MoravskĂĄ TĆebovĂĄ and LanĆĄkroun. If you plan to use one of these services, check the timetable for your travel day, as times may change. This is particularly useful if your arrival, departure or onward journey depends on a specific time. When travelling to either town, check the timetables for both the outward and return journeys to make sure the connection fits your dayâs plans.
The Chapel and Monastery History
The Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is a landmark in the village of Koruna. In the surrounding area, the former Koruna Panny Marie Monastery became a pilgrimage site visited by pilgrims from further afield. Visible remains of the Gothic Augustinian Koruna Panny Marie Monastery are located in the cadastral area of TĆebaĆov, also in the vicinity of Koruna. The monastery was founded in 1267 and fell into ruin in 1552. The chapel and the monastery remains are distinct geographical points of interest: the chapel is in the village, while the visible remains are in the cadastral area of TĆebaĆov. Those interested in the history of religious architecture can therefore explore one site in the village and another in the surrounding area.
A Traditional Event
The traditional witch-burning event was held in Koruna on 26 April in both 2024 and 2025. It included a bonfire, a witch figure and mackerel. Alongside winter cross-country skiing, this offers a distinction when choosing when to travel: cross-country skiing is a winter activity, while the tradition took place in April in both years. If you are planning a visit for the witch-burning event, check the dates for the year you want to travel.
