Rudná offers hiking routes, local history and various leisure spots. A marked red hiking trail passes through the village; in Dolní Rudná there is a historic fire station and a chapel with memorial crosses. There are other specific places to visit on the outskirts of the village and along the Chrastovský potok. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can plan your stay around whether hiking, historic sites or leisure activities are your main focus.

Hiking between the village, the ridge and the valley

The marked red hiking trail runs from Březová nad Svitavou railway station through Rudná to Hřebeč. The route is 19.14 kilometres long and classified as moderately difficult. It is suitable as a standalone hike, for which you should set aside a dedicated block of time. Before setting off, check whether the trail markings are up to date.

The long-distance Českomoravská stezka also passes through Rudná: it runs along the high Hřebečovský hřbet ridge to the village, then descends from there into the Svitava Valley. The two routes offer different ways to plan your orientation. The 19.14-kilometre route specifies a precise distance and difficulty level; the long-distance route draws attention to its course from the ridge through Rudná and down into the valley.

Local history in Horní and Dolní Rudná

The first mention of Horní Rudná comes from a Latin document dated 17 January 1365, which was entered in the Moravian land tables in Brno. Rudná’s oldest surviving name is Ruden, derived from “rudka,” meaning red clay. Thus, both a dated mention and the origin of a recorded place name are historical points of interest in the village.

Among the municipality’s sights is the historic fire station in Dolní Rudná, built in 1925. According to tradition, the chapel in Dolní Rudná is dedicated to Saint John and Saint Paul. It is adorned with seven 19th-century memorial crosses bearing the names of their donors. The fire station and chapel therefore represent different historical details: a precisely dated building and crosses whose donors are named.

Play, sports and leisure spots

On the outskirts of Rudná, in the direction of the source of the Chrastovský potok, there is a multifunctional children’s playground. It is located in a park-like area with benches. The site therefore offers both play facilities and places to sit. If you include it in your plans, check the facilities on site.

There is also a fire-fighting reservoir along the Chrastovský potok, which is also used as an ice-skating rink and an outdoor swimming pool. Before visiting, check whether the relevant leisure activity is currently possible and what the water conditions are. This lets you assess the reservoir according to your planned activity without assuming it will be usable for a particular visit.

Rudná also has a football sports complex. In the past, its summer activities mainly included sports for young people. Children’s days were held there, and football and volleyball were also played. These historical uses give the complex a different focus from the playground or the fire-fighting reservoir.
