If you would like to explore landscape and architectural history together during your stay, Sádek offers some tangible starting points. The village lies within the Žďárské vrchy Protected Landscape Area. Its terrain is hilly and shaped by several long valleys through which small streams flow. At the same time, Cycle Route 4022 and the history of Sádek’s historic buildings lead to very different aspects of the village. When choosing your destination, you can consider whether you are most interested in the landscape, cycling or local architectural history.

Landscape and cycling in Sádek

The hilly landscape and the long valleys, crossed by small streams, provide the natural setting. Cycle Route 4022 passes through Sádek and is a tangible point of reference for anyone considering including the village in their plans by bicycle. These describe different aspects: the route identifies a cycling connection through the village, while the valleys and streams illustrate the character of the terrain. If you are looking for a destination with a connection to the landscape, you can consider these features alongside the cultural and historical sites in the municipality.

The former Rychtář farmstead, No. 33

One specific example of local architectural history is the former Rychtář farmstead, No. 33. Around the middle of the 16th century, it served as the Rychtář’s seat. The farmstead has an enclosed square courtyard, a timber-framed upper storey and a detached masonry barn. The courtyard, the wooden construction of the upper storey and the freestanding barn reveal the different components of the complex. The farmstead is the oldest masonry folk building in the Poličsko area. Those interested in rural architecture can therefore look at both its historical function and the building’s specific design.

Church and Protestant cemetery

Another focal point is the enclosed early Baroque rural church complex of Nejsvětější Trojice (Holy Trinity). It dates from 1710 to 1713, is an important monument in the Poličsko area and is considered a symbol of the municipality. Services at the parish church are held on Wednesdays and Fridays at 18:00, Saturdays at 8:00 and Sundays at 8:30. Check service times before your visit.

A different historical period is the focus of Sádek’s original Protestant cemetery: it was established in 1783, after the Edict of Toleration was issued in 1781. The cemetery is protected by the heritage authority; only the stone boundary wall remains. Together, the church and cemetery reflect different historical connections: the early Baroque period of construction at the church, and the establishment of the Protestant cemetery in connection with the Edict of Toleration. The two sites thus offer different ways to explore Sádek’s history.

Getting there and getting around

Class II and Class III roads run through Sádek. The Class II road is served by bus routes and has three stops. If you plan to travel by bus, check the current timetables before setting off. This will help you include a visit to the local buildings, Cycle Route 4022 and the landscape in your stay plans without assuming that the bus connection follows a fixed schedule.
