Pomezí brings together a distinctive church landscape and regional cycling routes. St. George’s Church combines Gothic architectural elements with an interior shaped by Baroque and, in particular, Rococo influences; at the same time, the marked regional cycle route 4023 passes through the village. This offers different options to consider for your stay: architectural and local history, or a cycling trip that takes in several places. When looking for accommodation, it helps to ask whether you mainly want to explore Pomezí’s cultural monuments or include the village as part of a regional ride.
St. George’s Church and Local History
St. George’s Church is mentioned in 1349 in connection with the Diocese of Litoměřice; it was probably built in the Gothic style. Its architecture preserves Gothic elements, while the interior has Baroque and, in particular, Rococo features. For a clearer understanding, it is worth distinguishing between the two: the Gothic structural elements and the later design of the interior.
Individual details also offer a glimpse into the church’s history. A bell dating from 1511 hangs in its tower. At the entrance to the cemetery stand stone figures of angels dating from 1870. The church is a protected cultural monument of the Czech Republic.
The Chapel of the Virgin Mary is another place connected with the village’s history. A fire nearby damaged it in August 1924; the chapel was repaired in the 1930s and consecrated on 12 September 1937. This clearly dated sequence differs from the early mention of St. George’s Church and gives the chapel its own place in history.
Cycling Route and Settlement Pattern
For days out by bike, the marked regional cycle route 4023 provides a specific option: it runs through Balda, Pomezí, Květná and Čistá. Pomezí also has the forest-strip village settlement pattern typical of the Vysočina Region. This refers to a settlement pattern in which detached farmsteads lie on both sides of a stream valley and the road. This layout offers a distinct perspective on the village, alongside its individual churches and their details. The cycling route, meanwhile, connects Pomezí with the other places mentioned in the region.
In the surroundings of Pomezí, the Chapel of Our Lady of Miracles is located in Balda Forest. For travellers who would also like to visit a religious building outside the village, in addition to its churches, it may be a worthwhile addition. Check access and opening conditions locally if you plan to include the chapel in your itinerary.
Getting There and Choosing Accommodation
Pomezí has a rail connection on the Svitavy–Polička–Skuteč line. Bus services run between Polička and Rohozná, and between Polička and Svitavy. As routes and timetables may change, check the current connections for your travel date. This is particularly useful if you need to coordinate your journey with a specific arrival time.
Compare these points with your travel plans before choosing accommodation. This way, Pomezí remains in view both as a destination for local history and as a stop on a regional cycling tour.
