The Křetínka is a clear point of reference for Bohuňov: the village stretches along both banks of the river and lies in the Údolí Křetínky Nature Park. This means nature and local history are both part of your plans, rather than a single theme determining your stay. The waterfall, forest nature trails and rocks offer a different focus from St. Giles Church and the stone cross. The combination that suits you depends on whether you want to spend time outdoors or follow the village’s historical traces.

Nature, Water and Rocks

The Bohuňovské skály are a natural monument. There are around 50 protected climbing routes at the Centrální stěna of the Bohuňovské skály. The number may change as sectors are updated, so check the current status if you are planning a specific climb. The Bohuňovský vodopád is a small, two-tier waterfall on a stream beside a forest path towards Veselka. Its flow responds noticeably to dry weather: it drops sharply. It is at its most impressive after heavy rain. Weather and local trail conditions should therefore factor into your decision about when to visit the waterfall; check the path and conditions on arrival.

The Naučná stezka k Bohuňovskému vodopádu leads to the waterfall. The Liščí stezka is another forest nature trail in Bohuňov. The names suggest different emphases: the waterfall is already named as the destination of the first trail, while the Liščí stezka is another named option for a forest nature trail. When choosing, you can consider whether the waterfall itself is what you want to focus on.

Church and Local History

The first written mention of Bohuňov dates to 1382. The present-day St. Giles Church was built in the Empire style in 1820–1821. These dates mark different periods: the village’s early written history and the construction of the present church building. The church has fourteen Stations of the Cross dating from the first half of the 19th century; their creator is unknown. The construction date and the sequence of images provide concrete points of reference for exploring the village’s cultural history.

Another historical landmark stands on the road from Bohuňov to Vítějeves: a weathered sandstone cross stone is on the left-hand side. Its double relief depicts a Latin cross facing west. If you are interested in stone monuments, the material, double relief and westward orientation are the distinctive features of this landmark.

Events and Practical Information

Local cultural life also includes a traditional firefighters’ ball. Dates vary from year to year, so if you want to plan your trip around it, check the dates for the relevant year.

For everyday needs, Bohuňov has the Naše špajzka self-service grocery store, which is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Check the access requirements and opening arrangements before visiting. Bohuňov is also connected to public transport by bus routes. As routes and timetables can change, check your connection before travelling.
